Window Tint Care!!!
Window Tint Care!!!
Its been a year since i put tint on my windows and i havent cleaned the inside windows ever. Its to the point now that its really dirty wit dog nose marks and finger prints. I want to clean them but Im afraid I'll ruin them. Ive heard cleaning window tint with glass cleaner will turn the tint purple and dull. My question is what should i clean the inside of tinted windows with.
Doesn't need to be Maxima specific now that it's in the detailing forum.
And a search through the stickies would provide info.
According to the shop that just tinted my wife's new Cooper S, the newer, quality films will not turn purple even if ammonia products are used. That may be true, but I'll stick to Plexus.

Hey Brandon. The Plexus was recommended to me by the tint shop that did my Max. I like the fact that besides being tint safe, it seals the pores in the plastic making it more durable.
Off topic - any thoughts about a cruise? Any dates for the Dells car show yet?

window cleaner has NEVER made any window film turn purple. so don't worry about that.
do certain cleaners make the film bubble, peel, craze, crack? you bet.
good cleaners--sprayway (the best), plexus, and MOST ammonia free window cleaners.
(note--plexus is not actually a cleaner but a polish. but it's still really good stuff)
cleaners you want to stay FAR away from--armor all 20/20 (clearly marked "safe for tinted windows", it is totally NOT safe for tinted windows. proven by CPFilms R&D dept), windex, and any can or bottle not clearly marked "ammonia free" or "contains no ammonia".
as a good rule of thumb, stay away from any product marked "safe for tinted windows", as most are not.
using an ammonia based window cleaner once a year is not going to hurt your film. using it ever single weekend for 2-3 years? expect problems, that won't be covered under your film warranty.

it is important to keep your car window tint looking nice.. there are few things that you must be able to know on how to take care of them.. i just want to share this with you guys the instructions that i got from a website..
1. Leave it alone for awhile. When tint is applied to a car window, it needs time to cure. You should be careful not to touch the window tint for the first 5 days and do not clean it for the first month. Curing time will vary depending on your climate and weather, but the average time is around 30 days.
2.Clean with soft cloth, sponge or regular household paper towel. Never use a hard cloth, brown paper towel, or newspaper for cleaning tinted windows. Harsh papers and rags scratch the tint.
3.Use soap and water for cleaning. It is not good to use any ammonia based product, such as Windex, when cleaning window tint. Over time, use of ammonia can react with the tint and cause blotching on your windows.
4.Be careful when removing your seat belt and holding your car keys. Metal objects such as seat belt buckles can scratch the surface of the window tint.
5.Take care when loading boxes and other items into your car. Hitting the tinted window will cause nicks.
6.Put stickers someplace else. Never use adhesives or suction cups to put anything on your tinted car windows. Leave the bumper stickers for your bumper.

I've used AA glass cleaner for years and never had any problems. Ammonia-free and you're good.
