so i nightshaded my bumper lights a few weeks back and got a little carried away.

now they are darker than i would like and i was wondering if there was a special solution or cleaner that will remove the shading, but not damage the plastic cover.


ive tried WD40 and googone to no avail.

 

Try some paint thinner.

 

Lacquer thinner.
Works like a charm....took me about 20 minutes to take it off both headlights and corner lights.....Just wear gloves and do it in an area with no living things.

Meh, I would definitely try a solvent first, but also be aware; no matter what action you take it will take off everything. So after cleaning, it would be a good idea to put a coat of wax on them.

 

get some Oops, thats what ive used many times to remove Niteshades.

 

dont use that laquor crap it'll fog it up. just get some 1k and 2k grit sandpaper and go to work, they'll look completely stock

 

I've used Goof Off, that sounds similar to Goo Gone. But after rubbing it on there and getting it soaked with it, it came off pretty well. I had it on my clear bumper lights as well.

How would a paint thinner fog up lenses yet one and two thousand sand paper won't? If you do sand, even with just skipping the 1000 and going straight to 2000, your lights will look skuffy until you polish and wax them, a high gloss polish and handheld buffer works best, but I'm sure if you just used some kind of acetone product and wax they would look brand new. (Often, if you don't already have polishes', they can be quite pricey- wax isn't)

yea someone on the org recommended i use the thinner but when i used it, i applied a small amount, and i was rolling around 2 weeks with a fogged headlight almost like it was damaged. luckily the wetsanding fixed it but you can just wetsand it without using that junk. faster work to me mine looked just as good as OEM when we got done with no scratches. maybe he's got it done already but just for those that are curious, thats what happend with me. i learned my lesson listening to anybody on here about non related motor work

 

whatever it did wasnt just a scuff. its almost like it kind of look like it melted through. but like i said luckily 1 and 2k grit brought it back to how it should be. simple as that.

 

I just took the night shade off my tails using mineral spirits and a rag, it took a bit but it came off

 

Use 3m adhesive remover and rub it off, then put a little wax on them they look brand new and it won't damage them.

 

mineral spirit works well but takes a while but has anyone tried gasoline? I know its expensive but it does work at stripping paint..

Wow, bringing it back.

 

Goo Gone Extreme, not regular Goo gone in the clear bottle, this is in a red and black aerosol can, I got it at Lowe's in the paint section....spray it on wait 5 to 10 mins and it comes right off, then polish. I did my Tails to dark and this worked like a charm.

 

LOL......

Isopropyl Alcohol with 0000 steel wool and then microfiber. Don't use heavy aromatic solvents....they will eff up your plastic. Rinse with water.

 

rubbing alcohol and a razor blade takes it off in no time with no damage
