Help with removing swirls
Help with removing swirls
Guys I need some advice...I bought a Griots garage buffer a few months ago and I love it, but I am having trouble getting consistent with it. I just buffed out my 99 Black max today with a yellow Lake country pad and ultimate compound, then I used nu finish (for kicks) by hand after. At first the results were stunning, a few hours later I look in the sun and notice some serious swirls on one side, almost like I never buffed it. What am I doing wrong? I can't get a technique down. Can someone PLEASE spell out your working technique, from exact arm movement speed, rotary speed, pressure, number of passes I need to figure this crap out. I know every polish and pad is different, but sometimes I get good results and sometimes bad with the same products. Help!
Get on the meguiars online forum. If u r getting swirls from a buffer your rotary speed may be too high or u r pressing down too hard. Don't lay on the rotary just hold it and etc it do its thing
U didnt use any finishing compound. Dont let it dry and keep buffing cuz thats were the swirls come from. Us a spray bottle to keep it wet it it stArts to dry. Use compound then finishing glaze with the correct pad the a good wax and read the bottle for rpms but i doubt thats ur problem.
I feel your pain. I recently did my 2010 Max that needed some serious love.
I use a Porter Cable 7424 for buffing and have been doing this for several years.
Depending on how bad the swirls are a yellow LC pad might not have enough cut to it. I use the orange pad when using Meg's Ultimate Compound. I then follow that up with Meg's #7 - Show Car Glaze on the gray LC pad(which you can buy at an O'Reilly's auto parts store or online). Then I used Meg's new Ultimate Liquid Wax on the LC Gold pad. The results were stunning. See the pictures below.
***Be sure to follow the directions on the bottle to the T. If it says don't let it dry, definitely don't let it dry! It becomes a b*tch to remove!***

I do believe that the ColorX will simply fill in the swirls, so you're only putting a bandaid on the problem. I use my FLEX polisher with Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover and an orange pad. Then I follow up with Wolfgang Finishing Glaze and a white pad...no issues using this method. I do this for my Liquid Silver Maxima, and my wife Blue Altima. Her Altima always needs serious work, as she runds it through whatever car wash is cheapest, and I can always get the swirls out if I take my time.

If you let wax dry on some trim, you will need something like Back to Black to fix that
