Cut and Buff Project *Picture heavy*. 2000 Maxima

Hello everyone I wanted to share my experience with sanding and polishing my 2000 Maxima.
It was repainted about a year ago which gave it a lot of time to cure.
I don't suggest this on Factory clear coat because it's very thin and you can sand right to the base coat very easy.

Progress Pictures:
Thanks to a friend on a detailing forum he allowed me to use much of his inventory to polish my car at his home. Because of the time we were not able to do the bumpers. I sanded the front and rear bumper by hand with 2000 Grit 3M paper. Then I used a polishing system to buff out the sanding marks to get these results. Name: DSC_0332.jpg

As mentioned in my other post this is what I did to the bumper.

I did the same thing to the rear bumper with the same results. No wax, just sanding and polishing.

Now for the rest of the car

Thanks for looking on my fellow members. Please any questions Let me know. AS for what I used, it was Meguiars microfiber polishing kit and Groits Garage polisher.

Sorry I didn't think this was still active.

Not including other important steps this is the kit I used.

This car was totaled recently and I am going to do a write-up on detailing my 7th Gen.

But please feel free if you have any questions E-mailing on doing this before my next write-up.

How about this BigIrishstl, I'm doing a Nano skin write-up tonight and granted it's not even close to what is in this picture but it will make your paint look much nicer. But i'm going to correct my brothers 07' Honda Odyssey next weekend and I will list EVERYTHING I used and best techniques to get the best results.

But I can tell you the system I used thus far.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CJ69F2W/...ars+microfiber

I Purchased this for a reason, It comes with 4 pads / 2 correction pads and 2 finish polish pads, Apron not that I see you wearing it lol, and the paint correction polish and a finishing glaze tops everything off.

http://www.amazon.com/Griots-Garage-...s=groits+gaage

This is the polisher I have and I picked it over the Porter Cable which is more popular because it has more power.
http://www.amazon.com/Griots-Garage-...s=groits+gaage

Something I will go over in my detail write up will be what to use.
The mirofiber pads can be a little aggressive so they might not be the best choice for your paint, but we will talk about that. It will not only be the pads you use but more importantly the product you use to remove the swirls.

And last, Quality Microfiber towels. A good quality towel won't reintroduce swirls back into your paint after you spend a lot of time removing them. But it's not just the towels, it's how you remove polish from the paint, no long will you EVER use a circle motion when doing ANYTHING to your car not even washing it which I will also go over.

Guys I love the questions keep em' coming.

Perfect. Sounds great. Here is what I do currently. I use a regular Greek sponge and meguiars golf class wash. I rinse the car well prior to washing. I usually do it cold so as not warp rotors! After a rinse, I wash using plenty of liquid and usually rinse sponge and rewash the section again. I. Then clean each wheel and rinse each. After that is done I rinse the car again and go up and down the street quickly for excess water off. Then use old bath towels to dry softly and do everything from trunk seals, door seals and sills and use the damp towel to wipe inside and clean windows. Finally I apply a little meguiars tire wet stuff called endurance and viola... I get this done in 45 mins so I'm happy with that as I have the little ones to deal with ;-)

Now break down the errors of my ways for me as I am always willing to learn and add to the routine.

I've felt that it seems with modern paint you don't need to wax and seal and do forth because the paint has a metallic or pearl in it and it is always shiny to my eye but what the h3ll do I know :-)

I'm starting to feel you're trolling me BigIrsh…. Because of this post i almost passed out and it caused me to write this.
https://maxima.org/forums/detailing/...-car-wash.html

A wax and a sealant is not meant to make your car shiny, it's just a selling point. A lot of waxes and sealants will give your car great depth in the clear coat but it is not what makes your car shiny. All they do is full in the swirl marks and give the illusion of a clean perfect paint. When weather takes place the wax will wear off and you will notice the dullness again.
sealants last longer than waxes, this is the major diff between the two.
The only real purpose on a wax/sealant is to protect your clear coat from Uv rays and prevent clear coat break down, such as peeling and oxidation.

This is how i've explained it to some of my customers, it is like putting sun tan lotion on your skin.. Does it make you shiny? yea it does but that isn't the purpose of it, it protects your skin from the UV rays.

Only polishing your car will give it an honest shine that will last forever with correct maintenance. See Link at top to protect that shine and your investment.
