I have a 99 Maxima 5 speed with a K&N drop in. And it's a Cali spec engine.

Any updates on that CEL / coil pack issue?

Also check tire pressures, filter cleanliness, and fuel. What mileage are you at and have all the services been done to it? Your torque is right where it should be, but for some reason it's just falling off a bit more than normal in the top-end with your horsepower numbers.

Yeah, my car is getting worst. I saw that the CEL started blinking so I parked the car and gonna trouble shoot it soon. I need to replace that coil pack. It keeps cutting on and off.

could you tell me the symptoms of a coil pack that needs replacing?

while i was racing, i heard a bang, which caused engine hiccups.
i get these engine hiccups in first and second gear at low rpms <2500.

i don't have any engine codes (0505) so im wondering if i have fouled spark plugs?

btw...your car dyno numbers look kind of low...but could that be the result of cali-spec emmissions?

Well, when my car gets like that it , just like you say, hiccups. It's pretty much to me kinda like a cylinder not firing. Really weak no power till higher RPMs then it kinda smooths out. Yeah, sometimes my when Im flooring it, it will jerk hard then starts the "hiccups." I'll tell you a way that I found out if I had a bad one. Other than getting a 0201 or the opposite, I forgot, ecu code. When my car started acting up. I went out with a screw diver and started disconnecting coil packs one at a time while the car was running. If it was good ofcourse the car would run crappier. If it was bad nothing would happen. Well, good luck I hope I was somewhat of help.

yes that did help...thank you

i was really worried when i heard that "bang" when i was racing, since my car was running perfectly prior to that.

im going to have my coils tested this weekend with a multimeter, but if that doesn't work...ill be sure to try your disconnection method.

thanks for your help

I had a '92 S/C'ed Bonneville that had the exact same problem. Thought I was throwing a damn rod the first time it happened, but I figured it had to be ignition related. Same exact description as what I've read here.

was the problem solved by replacing spark plugs?

cali is no problem to get rid of get a non calis engine harness and ecu and there you go no more cali. Also change a few components. my 99 cali is now 95 fed spec swapped from auto too 6 spd.
