what is so bad about dynoing in 3rd gear? I ask because this is the gear I usually dyno in....will the dyno be in accurate?...the guys at the shop told me that the difference in 3rd and 4th would only be several hp....and 3rd is a shorter pull/lower mph

I believe it has to be the gear closest to 1:1 ratio. Autos dyno in 3rd.

I do know that...but what does that really mean? As far as putting power down? Is third inaccurate for that reason?

3rd isnt INACCURATE persay.......but since it's NOT 1:1 ratio....it wont be the exact same as 4th gear.

Bijan,

I put similar #'s down with almost the same mods. I actually feel better after seeing that a similar 4th gen 5 speed dynoed close to my #'s. However, I believe 96sleeper dynoed something like 204 HP and 201 tq at this same dyno with only a few more mods....

Many sources say that dyno'ing in a 1:1 gear is sorta cheating. It reduces friction and extrapolates the power numbers to be ones that are only available in that gear. Every other gear encounters more friction and therefore makes less WHP/WTQ. IMO, real WHP/WTQ should be measured in 3rd.
