What gear in Auto for rolling dyno?
What gear in Auto for rolling dyno?
When I dyno at my local place they always dyno auto's in 2nd, he insists that if its just left in Drive it will chop down a gear.. what is the norm for autos on a rolling dyno?
How much could I add to my record HP if I dyno in 2nd gear over the 3rd which has a closer to 1:1 ratio?

The higher gears tend to read a little higher than the lower gears. This is because much of the energy is spent accelerating the wheels, flywheel, cranksahft, moving parts etc. . However on a load based dyno it almost doesn't show up at all. I have never seen anyone from NZ or AUS. post a dyno sheet that was done on an inertia based dyno (Dynojet).
ur supposed to dyno auto in 3rd. leaving OD off. you accelerate and let the car shift its way to 3rd, and after the rpms pass 3k you floor it, the car will not downshift at that point. and thats when you record the dyno.
On a dynojet....
I've dynoed in 2nd and 3rd. Seems to me that the HP #'s are very close, but 3rd seems to give more tq.
Also, in 2nd the curve is much smoother, doesn't run the engine too hard, and for A33B's, gives more RPM to play with since it wont downshift over 30 mph. So tuning can begin from 3000+ (3250 ish)
