2002 6MT Best Run - 241 WHP 237 TQ

I finally got this done and was pretty satisfied with the results, especially how consistent the curves are, I just wish the guy ran it to 6600 like I told him to. The AFR was much flatter than I expected too, considering it is untuned but is still in the high 12s, except for the last run. They did use a tail sniffer for the AF, FWIW.

Run 1 - 237 WHP 234 TQ
Run 2 - 239 WHP 236 TQ
Run 3 - 241 WHP 237 TQ

Current set-up:

GAB, Cattman Gen 2 headers, Frankencar b-pipe, Megan Racing axle-back, stock cat, stock 17s, stock base timing.

For those who are interested, there's a vid here:

The operator took it to fuel cut on the first run (the run in the vid) but stopped short on the next two runs. You can also see that from the chart; he only hits 6600 on run #1. It isn't really a big deal since the power starts to tail off after 5800 anyway.

Very good with your HP mods! Should be able to get up by 260 with just a few more bolt on's.

Your car sound nice also!

so the v-afcii was causing you to lose hp last time?

In a way, yes, but it wasn't due to a faulty unit or harness. It was the MAF connection from the harness. I tried two VAFC-IIs, without changing the harness, and got the same results. Every time I reconnected the direct MAF connection, the car ran fine, but whenever it went through the harness and VAFC-II, I lost power. I even mailed the VAFC-II to Deckdout2 to try and he said it worked fine. Someone else is using my harness and VAFC-II now and has had no issues, so I must have screwed something up along the way. I thought that I had rechecked everything multiple times and even the sensor voltages checked out fine. Must have been something obvious that I missed, but oh well, I've moved on now.

Btw, thanks everyone. I am happy with the numbers considering it literally is just GAB, headers, and cat-back.

Now that I think about this again, I think I should just get the base timing advanced to 17 degs for now. That should be a pretty quick and easy thing to get done.

The spacers will depend on what route I decide to go with the IM.

Any route you take, you're still going to have to take it out, so you may as well do the spacers

Question for you puppetmaster, I put my Gen III Cattman Headers/Y-pipe on and when I took it for a spin I did a quick little punch and it really didn't seem all that much faster. It was definitely louder but I don't think it felt like it pulled as hard as what I was expecting. Could you tell a difference right away when you installed your Gen II's????

It takes time for the ECU to "learn" new mods, so it may take a couple days or a week. You should get it tuned as well to notice full benefits.

Well that is true....also I already am going this Saturday to get my SAFC-2 dyno tuned and I have a SSIM on the way. Hopefully after those two things are done I notice a difference....I think the tuning will help a lot because I know she is running pig rich because everytime I start it up it smells like a race car...lol. I am probably going to put my stock cat on the car though because right now I sound like a Honda Civic or something it has that bees in a can sound to it. Hopefully putting the cat on the car will take that away.

Just put your stock mufflers back on...NmexMAX and I will approve

Yes, we could tell the difference right away. Cutler was with me that day and he drove the car too and will agree.

That is also partly because you have no pre-cats (and a main cat, in your case). Get a dyno with AF readings to see what it is for sure.

As posted above, with headers, I would think that most would feel some difference felt right away. I don't think the ECU is a huge factor in this because in open loop, O2 sensor feedback is ignored anyway, and I assume nothing was changed on the MAF end.

IMO, butt dynos are pretty much extremely subjective, and in most cases, useless, so I never rely on them for anything. Once you get your car dynoed, you will find out for sure, so don't sweat it for now.

True...I just hope I at least lay close to 250whp with the headers, SSIM, and the tune

Alright, this is my formal judgement on the headers!!!!

I fixed my axle so I got to do some runs in the Maxi-pad. Now I actually got to get a little longer of a run and I will be the first to say that it pulls hard....REALLY HARD!!! I guess I just didn't get enough of a run in to pass judgement. I took a couple of my friends for a ride and every single one of them noticed a difference. Even my dad noticed a different and I think his butt dyno has been broke for a while. But once again I guess after the SSIM and tuning she will pull even better and then maybe I can break those 13's this summer at the track....lol

Thanks, good to hear, but I'm not sure how many people will see your feedback here. You can post your comments and install experience in the header sticky in the 5th Gen forum, I'm sure more will benefit from that.

Also, no dyno no care.

LOL....well I actually was supposed to go tomorrow to get the car dyno tuned with my SAFC-2 but now there's a big ice storm so that's a no-go til next weekend.

Good numbers Joel. I'd be happy too to reach that point. What are you using to tune at the moment now that your "working" VAFC-II is out?

I just picked up an Emanage Blue and will see how that fairs for me.
