MILD-BUILT VQ35 DYNO BASELINE

SAE #s

Compares my previous best NA dyno (with catback, it would be unfair to compare it to open cutout as I no longer have a cutout) from Oct07, to the best run of this afternoon. The only things that are different between the two dynos are...

* VQ35HR valve springs double-seated
* Debuloz Ebay JDM cams
* Intake cams clocked to full-retard CVCT position of ~64*
* 3" crush bent catback now (previous was a 2.5" mandrel)
* Emanage Blue now (previously SAFC1)

NOTICE- Although peak numbers dont matter as much as area under the curve (and if you believe otherwise, this thread is too advanced for you n00blet), the gain in peak was pretty nice and more or less as I expected.

PEAK NUMBERS-
WHP= +13
WTQ= -4

However...

AREA UNDER THE CURVE-
Everything under 5300ish is lower now by about 5-7whp, but after that the gain is evident
6000RPM-
WHP= +14
WTQ= +13

REDLINE-
WHP= +25
WTQ= +20

The way these cams- along with the new cam timing, was all put together around the purpose of the motor reving to passed stock to make useable power up there. The decrease in power in the midrange is something I expected.

Driving around it actually feels amazing. Power delivery is very linear and smooth. Everything works great!

Conclusion-
Now that I dyno'd, and tuned, and made sure everything was fine, I can continue on with my All-Motor project as planned... after paying off credit cards and buying a new set of tires LOL. The goal here is to make around 285-290 whp reliably, and so far, this setup is in the right track for it. Dynos will come as mods roll in.

And of course, a video compilation by streetz

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHUbId2qLcY

Thank you all that helped in this project, streetzlegend, Alex, Jimmy, Castellanos, Ernie, and grandp00p!

BTW, to really hear the loppy idle, if you have a good set of speakers, turn up the bass. "The Rumble" is in the low frequencies. I turned up my bass and you can clearly hear the bouncing around

too cool man. The gain at redline looks great. Do you think that your running a little too lean still where it starts touching on 14's??

thanks guys!

Chillin- not really. I used to run 14.1-14.2 all the way with the previous NA setup with no problems. And trust me we added fuel there, it was running ALOT leaner lol. These are my settings for the a/f tuning...

so you didnt bother making corrections between 25 percent throttle and 90 percent? (or am I reading this wrong). Was it running a little lean at partial throttle down low??

Dude, you do impressive work - especially under tough conditions. Rebuilding the upper end with the motor still in the car - outstanding!

Repeat after me - spray, spray, spray.....

No need. The adjustment of the Parameter Settings took care of most of it. And then things were fine-tuned as needed on the MAF adjustment table. Driving around its on high 14s, idle is at 14.8-15.0, WOT from lets say 2000 has it at mid 14s then as it gets into 3k it drops into 13s and stays there, just as it would be with working o2s for example.

How agressive are you going to get with the setup? Bottom end build?

So just to clarify.. you clocked the cams to end up at 64* (ie centerline 125) AFTER accounting for the 2* of advance built into the cam? (ie if you install the cams straight up with the dowels flipped 180* you'll get a centerline of 123).

Ah, thank you! I guess then they are set to 62* . The dowel pins were drilled on the sprockets EXACTLY 180* off stock.

well now that I think about it, I thought of my goal #s as STD #s since most of my dynos have been on STD corrected #s LOL. 246whp was my previous best, and this run from yesterday Im showing is about 264whp on STD correction. Anywho, what's next...

- Emanage Ultimate to bump timing and extend redline
- NWP Spacers to bring back some of that midrange
- Polishing and port-matching the LIM, UIM, and Elbow
- Electric Exhaust Cutout (this ALONE on my previous NA setup gained me 10whp)

So one step at a time, we'll see how it goes

Well congrats if i havent said it before. after seeing how much you got done in the span of a week or so i need to stop being lazy. i need to do the following myself:
1) finish tunning my 3.5 and hope to dyno what you put down.
2) fix my extremely dented y-pipe
3) get my iacv installed and my ps issue fixed.
4) install boost.

i'm gonna finish up number 1 this week if it kills me ( well not literally, but you get my point)

Do it man! I took the days off from both jobs and all to get most of this labor done (of course it rained most of that weekend, so I had to finish it off during the week, LOL). But had been planning this for over a month, so when I got to it I just jumped in and followed my own "to-do check list" lol.

I really want to see what your motor puts down as well! What do you have for tuning? Also, depending on how dented your y-pipe is, it may be a good idea to get that fixed prior to spending the money on dyno-time.

I bet you'll see more power if you richen it up to 13.5-13.2:1 with the EU (while of course still maintaining aggressive timing). Good stuff mang.

If I knew you were up here I would have swing by. Anyways congrats , im telling ya , you can squeeze more out of that motor and im sure you will very soon.

You should have ask them for my runfiles.. I havent been there since I dynoed.

I am hoping to put down at least 240 min. Then i'll make some adjustments and go from there. The y-pipe would be probally an issue and i already have one on order so we shall see when that gets here.

Glad you like what I've done with them, haha. Hey! do you happen to have the actual runfile for when you dyno'd with the cams? I think I asked you this already but I delete my PMs often

it was bouncing off ****! Perhaps if you bought higher quality speakers you would hear it.. I think that black powder from the bombs is getting to your head broah LOL

Nah but if you notice, I've never seen a stock ECU'd 4th gen that will actually let you rev it to 6550, they always stop just shy of it. My car has always done this and all the other 4th gens I've tuned. Only 02+ ECUs let it bounce off to 6600ish.

When is your turn to install those camz? I caught up to you last year! now this is the year for you to make the comeback! With the right parts I KNOW that auto can put down some sexy #s!
