Aackshun's Dyno Thread

Hey guys, just got back from Houston-Nissan's Dyno day, wanted to post my baseline before I add VQ35DE cams and any other mods that come my Maxima's way. I'll make an official post in the moderated thread when I scan the dyno sheet (scanner is being stupid now).

On to the biz...

(Sorry for the crappy photo, I guess it's better than nothing for now)

Dynojet- 4th Gear - 173whp (@ around 5.6k) / 185 wtq (@ around 4.8k)

Tried to get a AFR but my car sprayed the sensors and killed the readings

1999 SE-L 5 Speed, 170,xxx miles.

Current Modifications:
Bomz SRI
Warpspeed Y-Pipe
?Brand? High Flow Cat
RT Underdrive Pulley
G35 Coupe Rims on Michellin Sport PS2s (235/45/17)
Amsoil 10w30
93 Octane

'02-03 Maxima VQ35DE cams soon.

[edit]Then a minor exhaust mod.

Even further down the line in my dreams... An actual VQ35DE lol.

QUESTION!

What is that silly nilly dip @ 3-3.5k? I see it on other maximas with the same mods, fewer mods the dip becomes less pronounced but on maximas w/o a cat (or high flow cat) the low end seems to be lacking and that dip becomes a bit more extreme.

Any reason why you would put a stock 5.5 gen exhaust on the car?

I hate that stupid bend from the cat to the B-pipe currently on the car, even if I don't get any gains my mind will be at ease. I also have flat spots where the bends are, for OEM this is either a cheap replacement or Nissan really dropped the ball in '99.

Also I can get one for $50.

I thought the cat was?? I thought you picked up the warpspeed+magnaflow cat deal when you had the car, cause the cat is spot welded to the Y-Pipe, so I assumed it was part of that group deal...

Please don't tell me it's stock... Cause it throws an emissions code lol.

these are similar numbers to what i dynoed. my difference in mods were headers, no pulley, stock cat and i did 179whp and 183wtq. engine was heat soaked and it was like 95 degrees that day, even though i dynoed after 6pm, lol. i will dyno again soon with my new mods.

every gen is that flat spot in the exhuast, just go aftermarket to get rid of it.

I'm going VQ35DE, I'd rather not go out of my way that much, unless I'm horribly misinformed, 00VI setups are $250 and up, and this ~$80 detour is change compared to that.

Hrmm, I took another look, you're right, I'll just get a shop to fix me up a straight pipe w/ an 02 bung from cat-> b-pipe. Because just having that thing there below me bothers me... Allot, atleast I can add mental HPs lol.

The only aftermarket exhaust I'm considering is a full 3" catback, but I don't have the motor that needs it yet....

I'm just doing little cheap things that may or may not have an effect.

If its bad, just have it replaced. You could buy a used OEM cat or new OEM replacement and have the exhaust shop weld up some flanges for the Y pipe. No sense in getting a hi flow cat since they dont give any real gains unless you find one really cheap.

If it's bad then I'll hop on that ebay $30 test pipe unless I find something cheaper. All depends on if Jr put on a aftermarket cat or not...

Also can anyone explain that silly gaga curve @ 3-3.5k??? Or is it something that N/A VQ30 owners have to accept... I see it on a couple of dynographs but not all of them...

it would probably be easier to just go on ebay and buy a megan unit, it shouldnt be over $30 shipped, they are all resonated on there so it wont be as loud as people like myself running unresonated. with a good resonator in ur B-pipe and a good rear section u should have issues with noise.

I'm not talking about cat in that post.... I'm talking about the...

Cat -> Pipe w/ 02 bung -> B-Pipe

I find it pretty stupid, that almost S shape curve is what bothers me, who knows if it'll make a difference or not, at least I"ll be happy....

Uhhh, you have .5 more liters than me, you also realize that the dyno in the OP is from when I only had a I/Y/HFC right?

I'm just adding my previous post to this thread because this will be the one thread I'll update in the future.

On a Dynojet/Stang dyno? Not a dyno dynamics or anyt other one?

Either way, still good #'s for an auto.
