Best Oil for 2k2 6 speed

I know this may be a beaten horse, but can anyone give their experiences with certain synthetics after DRIVING them for some time.
Mobil1, Royal Purple, Redline, Amsoil, Motul, Castrol, Slick50, Aircraft Lubricants.

I have a 2k2 with dinosaur oil(Penzoil 5W50 in it> relatively fresh.

Until 12k:

Oil: Castrol GTX (5W/30 or 10W/30)
Drain Interval: 3k on oil and filter

Switch to synthetic if you desire at that point. VQs take 10k or so to fully break-in.

Synthetic oil:

- Amsoil 5W/30 or 10W/30 (contact iwannabmw for pricing; he sells it to you for close to his cost)

- Mobil 1 5W/30 or 10W/30

Drain interval: 5k initially, then analyze and adjust drain interval accordingly

Oil Filters:

Nissan OEM (Use the pre-2k2 oil filter for 95 to 2k1 VQs, as it is bigger)
STP S6941 (at AutoZone)

Interval: 5k

it might be bigger, but is it better? What does the analysis say? The outside size of the filter is no determination of the inside filtering capability.

If it truly is better, good, but don't assume it is because the casing has a larger diameter.

True. Nissan is using the SR20DE filter from the Sentra, which is markedly smaller.

I looked into this in the past, with the motorvate.ca breakdown of the 95 to 2k1 OEM filter and also a se-r.net (or some sr20de site) breakdown of a SR20DE OEM filter, and I was convinced it offered no advantage over the older VQ filters. It seems to be Nissan's way of combining parts and lowering costs for the future....

If it truly is better, good, but don't assume it is because the casing has a larger diameter.
I didn't ASSume, I did research. I did fail to keep the links though.

Here were my findings (not specific from a filter media area though ), including reflections of mistakes/inaccuracies I had doing the research:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=150234

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=150186

It's odd that I'm questioned about my findings with my rather detailed research of this stuff....if/when I make mistakes I'm happy to admit it. Please correct me if you find some alternate info.

5w-50 is way too large a spread, especially for a dino oil.

I like Mobil1 because it is cheap @$17.88 for a 5-quart jug at Walmart. It gives oil analysis a run for the money. Toss in a $4 Nissan filter and your car will last a long long time.
I also had several cars hit 200k miles on Mobil1/Castrol/Amsoil/Redline/RoyalPurple/Pennzoil with no engine issues ever. I am usually a rebate/sale shopper with oils and have no brand loyalty. Any name brand synthetic is good. I have never had issues with synthetics.
It all depends on how much you want to spend, how much time you want to wait(shipping), and how often you plan on changing it.
Never use an oil with such a high visc spread. 5w50 is a big No No!

I use Mobil 1 0w-30 or 5w-30. I still change the oil every 3,500 miles.

Nah, it's junk. You might as well use all Slick 50 and a Fram oil filter instead

I'm glad I don't buy Mobil's products!

Exxon Mobil is the largest corporation in the world and it has, virtually single-handedly, blocked global efforts to address climate change, including sabotaging US participation in the Kyoto Protocol. It is linked to climate destruction, human rights abuses, and democracy buy-out. It is being sued for complicity in human rights atrocities in Indonesia, has recently removed indigenous peoples from their homes in Colombia, and is supporting one of the world's most brutal regimes in Chad. If anything, Exxon Mobil's impact on the environment goes far beyond ExxonValdez, ranging from its repeated efforts to destroy the Clean Air Act to endangering whale populations off Sakhalin Island in Russia. These are only the most recent issues with a company which is historically synonymous with greed and abuse.

Well, as soon as Walmart carries... oh, yeah.. walmart :/ nevermind.. I'm switching to Cornoil.. oh crap, Monsanto will find patented corn juju in my engine oil and take my whole car. Then I'll have to get electric, oh wait.. Bush will be banning those soon

I dunno.. I wanted to stop using exxon many years ago, but they are the only place that takes my recycled oil without hassle. And their gas happens to be the cleanest around here.. And mobil1 is very convenient.. and a good value. Hard to ignore them as a consumer.
