HI, I was researching some info for my Infiniti J30(VG30DE) and ran across this thread.

Are some of the cross references I came up with. I am currently using the Baldwin filter with the microlite filter medium and am happy with it. I ordered a six pack from http://www.adiesel.com/ online for $6 per filter(MSRP: $13.25).

I dont know if anyone still pays any attention to this thread. But I just went to Autozone and bought a Mobil 1 filter for $11.99 I am going to use it on my change tommorrow, anyone have any experience with them? before I put it on.

anyone hear anything about toyota moving oil filter manufacturing to thailand? is there any comparison between japanese version and the thai version?

some are reporting that the thai version of the supra filter is cheap and has a paper filter on the inside much like Fram.

I tried the Toyota filter on my 93se, not only did it make the ticking louder, it does it all the time now. I'm about to drive the car off a cliff I'm so sick of it's issues.

dmontzmax, I got one of those the previous oil change, it did nothing to help the ticking whatsoever, just another oil filter, and expensive too.

 

Don't blame the filter. Once your VTCs are past a certain point, it will clack no matter what you do.

It's a proven quality filter and it's actually alot cheaper than a K&N/Mobil 1/Napa gold. It's not cheaper than a Fram but then again, who in hell uses crappy Fram filters. I only paid $3.29 ea for my Yota filter

 

Jeff, I was responding to dmontzmax about the Mobile filter, and I paid like $4 w/tax for that Toyota filter.

 

I was just stating it wasn't the Toyota filter's fault that the VTCs are ticking. Every person that has tried it, has noticed a decrease in VTC noise.

 

I immediately noticed less ticking. But then again, the ticking came back to normal. It's just b/c my VTCs are old.

Before you drive the car off a cliff, if it's a 5spd, try to sell it to someone that will appreciate it. If it's an auto, drive it off a cliff.

 

Whats wrong with using a Frame filter ? They seem to be working fine for Max !

I picked up 7 fiters (60U00) for $42 in GA today... That was just the Nissan dealer. I still haven't tried Infinity yet. I guess there's still hope. If anyone wants more I'll check for you. I'd be cost + shipping (~ $6 ea w/lrg quantity + shipping)

So, what's the shelf life on these things (w/the shrink-wrap)?

I've looked at the stickies and I don't see where it says frams are bad.... I just put one on my 91 GXE, i've always used them, should I look into using a different one? What will be my gains?

I would just like to add another testimonial to the Toyota filter.

About 3 weeks ago I changed my oil and removed my Nissan 15208-60U00 filter, replacing it with identical oil but using the Toyota 90915-YZZA2 filter instead. Over the last 3 weeks I have (so far) noticed a significant decrease of instances of cold startup valve clatter. I can probably count on one hand the number of times it has rattled upon a cold start out of dozens to date.

It seems to be a very high quality filter, and identical to the US version. I paid about $11 after tax.

Previous oil filters such as the Nissan 15208-60U00 and Purolator's Pure ONE all rattled with roughly the same frequency.

My VTC assemblies are fine, as far as I have been able to tell, and the engine has always had its oil changed regularly.

This filter is a pleasant surprise, and without the supply problems of finding other premium quality filters.



To answer OoTOAoO's question, Fram filters are very cheaply made with smaller filter elements, and just don't tend to inspire confidence when you look inside them. Fram makes the vast majority of cheap, generic, rebranded filters for others as well. For your GXE this isn't as big an issue and they should work "okay", but there is better stuff out there.

Billions Nissan in Sioux Falls, SD at least the guy at the counter, said they didn't have any more of those filters around. I'm going to check Nissan and Infiniti dealers in Minnesota as well as maybe Toyota dealers if I can't find any. I can hear one or two clacks upon cold startup's now, but that maybe due to the fact that its been 4,200miles since the last oil change

 

Bill99gxe have you looked at aftermarket filter's that cross reference with the Toyota 90915-YZZA2? According to Purolators website, they seem to have a filter part# L14476 http://www.pureoil.com/ProductFinder.aspx?action=IG

According to the spec sheet http://ecat.arvinmeritor.com/smartlink/?partnum=L14476 it looks as though there is an anti-drain back valve but I'm not sure if this filter is similar HD as the Toyota filter.

Here are other cars with this type of OEM filter http://www.pureoil.com/ProductFinder.aspx?action=WUG Just type in the purolator part#L14470. It looks as though Chevy and GEO also uses this filter. I'm sure you can walk into your Chevy dealer and buy a similar filter for cheaper $$$ than a Toyota one.

 

Why? If you want to use a Purolator, just use the one that x-references with the Nissan filter. I paid less than $4 for my Toy filters. And I assume you read my stickie in the 3-gen section on where to get them

 

I typed in the Nissan filter and it doesn't seem to cross reference with anything. When I type in the make,model,year it seems as though they list the same part# for both SOHC and DOHC Maxima's. I thought there were no aftermarket filters for the VE, thats why I suggested to use the Toyota to x-reference yes, I do read 3rd gen stickies

 

bill, any ideas on if these toyota filters would work on an i30/vq30de? i checked autozone and you can use both mobile1 filters between a 97 i30 and an 97 camry. if it definitely works, i'm heading over to toyota and grabbing some as i have to replace my filter soon.

 

Toyotas generally use a 3/4 thread, most 95-on Nissans use a M20 thread......they are technically close, but I wouldn't put a metric threaded filter on a english threaded motor and vice versa.



Answer: No, they do not cross reference. Nissans made in '94 and before generally have a 3/4 thread as well......

 

about the little fiber washer,its for the drain plug.This is what the toyota parts guy said.Also its not the right one.He exchanged it for a copper one.The kind that are used on spark plugs.He said that the plain fiber one will leak.I`m trying that toyota filter since my ticking has escalated.I also tried lucas oil treatment.It stoped about 50% of the noise,and with this toyota filter maybe the noise will completly go.

Looks like jerry rome nissan still lists the 60U00 filter for the VE which you can order, but im not sure if they actually do carry it....

EDIT: Nevermind, their database is outdated and superceded with the 55 model.

 

Well I just put in the Toyota 90915-YZZA2 now called the "90915-YZZF2" (same filter) I used to get VTC Tick 50% of the time on over-night cold starts for about 1-2 min. With the Toyota Filter, it has eliminated it completely! Good little filter, real small compared to the Nissan one, but a perfect fit. I payed $6.45 @ the local Toyota dealer and it's worth every penny! I highly suggest this filter!

 

wow I just found this thread on the ticking... lol so funny cause i feel so embrassed st stop lights and fast food drivethru's im going tomorrow to toyota for a filter. Anyone know the best oil to go with the toyo filter? thanks

 

Why not get a single or dual remote oil filter kit; flow and if mounted with filter end down, a massive oil reserve for start-up.

Of course, you can install a ing. kill switch, so that you can crank the engine over until oil pressure is obtained without starting it. I believe the F1 has such a system.
