oil capacity

hello all,
i am changing the oil on a friend's 1990 maxima v6 (auto trans if it makes a diff) and they don't have the users manual so i was trying to find the correct oil capacity for the change. also, i am considering buying the car from them and am very glad to have found these forums.

thanks in advance

VG30E engine oil capacity is officially stated as 4 quarts when changing the oil without the filter, and 4 1/4 quarts when changing the oil and filter.

Personally, I've never gotten over 3 1/2 quarts changing the oil and the filter on my 94 Maxima, so put a little less than 4 in there and top off as needed.
