Supersyn - a true synth?

I searched, and could not find an answer.

Basically, I have heard that once Mobil changed the formulation of the Mobil 1 line (ala supersyn), they changed from sythetic to dino base stocks. They were following the lead of Castrol, who pulled the same trick a few years back with the Syntec line. And as long as the oils performed to some syth "standard", they could legally claim them to be synth. I have thought this to be common knowledge, but with supersyn getting great endorsments from knowledgable members here, I am now confused.

That was Tri-Synthetic formulation, not this one.

If the SuperSyn formulation really is a dino, it's the best freaking dino oil ever made, as it easily gives Amsoil a run for it's money.

It's the best, most available oil out there right now. Don't hesitate to use it.

I agree with Bill's statement whole heartily. Amsoil was so far superior over the years it wasn't even funny. Mobil 1 has managed to close the gap quite nicely.
