before I dump the old tranny fluid...

should I drive the car around to warm up up the fluid so it pours out better?? Does it even matter?

I only ask because it is recommended to change the motor oil while it is hot. Same thing apply w/ tranny fluid?

thanks

Definitely change it hot. The gear oil is relatively thick and you will get more of the old fluid out the warmer it is.

I changed my tranny fluid with Mobil 1 Synthetic this weekend and I drained it after a 30 minute drive. I removed the dip stick for air flow and removed the drain plug and had it drain for 1 hr.

I had 5 quarts removed and refilled with Mobil 1 Syn (@ 43500 miles on my odometer), I have removed only 50% of the old fluid and it was dark brown to black in color. I intend to drain the fluid again @ 50000 miles to remove more of the old fluid but the next time Iam going to drop the pan and clean it.

I think it is worth the effort as I have had some horryifing experiences with these dealers who have been fu..king around with my car right from the engine oil change.

Also, I have been told that Mobil1 Syn tranny fluid is very good in removing the deposits and flushing the metal particles down to the pan .. which makes my next tranny job all the more interesting and rewarding.

i dont think the switch to synthetic ATF on high mileage cars is good though.i dunno, i just thought that its not recommended to switch to synthetic engine oil at high mileage and probably as well.not recommended on the transmission as well

Just had my tranny rebuilt about 3k miles ago and I'm planning on switching to syn ATF after another 7k miles. How does it shift with only 50% syn ATF? Is it good to mix syn and reg ATF?

i dont really mean that its not good, its just the thought that its not good to "switch" to synthetic on high mileage cars because of the possibility of oil leaks.your car might be 100k but what was the mileage when u switched?mines got 96k (a 96 by the way) and i switched at 94,im still waiting on the leaks if its gonna happen.and also,it depends if your engine has been really taken care of,if it wasnt; then oil leaks due to switching is more likely.

i dont understand your post...u ask me whats wrong with ATF in high mileage cars and u tell me your using syn 5w-30?doesnt make sense to me

mobil 1 synth atf

just got my tranny machine flushed today at a local shop for only $50 + fluid. I switched to mobil 1 synth atf and it shifts alot smoother now. It also downshifts much quicker too. I would recommend it to all. BTW my 00 i30 has 49K mi.

I know you guys were talking about ATF fluid, but is there really any benefit to using synthetic fluid in a VERY newly rebuilt manual transmission? any thoughts welcome.
