MT-90 with A.E. VLSD?

i just recently put in redline MT-90 75w90 tranny fluid in my 2k1 A.E., but another mechanic I was talking recommends gl-4 fluid for the lsd in the A.E. tranny rather than the gl-5 redline

any oil experts care to comment on this?

MT-90 is a gl4 fluid, no issues with using it whatsoever.

Your mechanic is wrong. The Maxima and other Nissan models specifically call for GL4. The Redline MT90 is GL4 and is probaly the best gear lube for the Maxima. The other choice is the Amsoil Series 2000 75w-90 gear oil. You made a good choice with the MT90 and you should stick with it.

Some of the conventional/dino gear oils that are GL5 will "eat up" /destroy the gears because of their chemical compound. So be careful.

The mechanic is partially right, but he doens't know about Maximas. Nissan calls for GL-5 in products that have a separate casing for the differential and that don't have "yellow" metals. That would cover RWD and AWD vehicles (don't know about CVT vehicles though). The max's diff isn't in a separate casing so you're cool.
