? about radiator flush
? about radiator flush
Hey everybody,
My '97 Max has 78k miles and I not sure if radiator flush was ever performed so I wen to a local Nissan dealer (Peruzzi Nissan) to find out how they do it and how much they charge. Well, it appears that they use a machine (not sure which one, but can find out if it matters) for this procedure which uses chemicals to eliminate any debris and accumilations and Prestone antifreeze. Price for the whole thing is $65.99. I also asked about the Nissan antifreeze and they said that it's $20 per gallon
.
Does anyone have experience or opinions with such machines? Do they perform a sufficient job of flushing out the radiator and the block or am I better off doing it manually?

Radiator flush is one of the easiest task for a DIY'er. I dont believe the power flush has any more value. Sounds like a marketing gimmick. Buy a gallon for 9$ anywhere else but the dealer, and invest one hour to do it yourself.

Thanks anyway.

Maybe in Canada prices are cheaper for Nissan's antifreeze but here in Philly area I haven't seen anything cheaper than $16 per gallon.
That's not the answer I was looking for. I wanted to know if the machine can do better, same, or worse job of performing a proper antifreeze flush?
Thanks anyway.

If the power flush is what I think it is, then it clears out all the old antifreeze in all the radiator hoses, and more importantly, out of the heater core.
If you have been faithfully changing your antifreeze, then it probably isn't necessary, but if you don't know when the last time the antifreeze has been changed, then it might be worthwhile.
So, I think I'm going to try it and just buy some Nissan or Toyota red antifreeze instead of Prestone that they use.
Thanks everybody.
