Coolant change question

couple questions about upcoming coolant change I'm doing:
When I unscrew the drain plug from the radiator, will the fluid

A) go straight down through the hole in the underguard without touching the underguard or

2) Spew out all over the underguard. If this is the case, how much should I expect to spew out on the underguard? And, will there be enough that I should take off the underguard first?

thanks for any help

Don't bother taking the gaurd off, it's a waste of time. The coolant will run straight down for the most part but may drip down the sides of the gaurds some. Just make sure you have a large collection recepticle to catch all of the coolant coming out. Did this on my 2000 Maxima this weekend and it was a piece of cake. A FULL flush should take you ~2-3hrs. Otherwise, a drain and refill should take less than 15min. Make sure you release the valve in the heater so you can get the most all of the coolant drained out in order to minimize the number of drains needed to get a full flush done. Instructions for this are found at http://www.motorvate.ca. Have fun.

I used 1 and 1/2 gallons of coolant on my flush and refill and still have a 1/2 gallon container left. I'm considering doing a drain/refill in a year just to get rid of it.

Does opened coolant bottle have any type of break down or use-by-date?
