Oil, Oil, Oil. What kind?

What kind of oil is everyuone running? Regular? Synthetic? and what kind of brands. What benifits do synthetic give? ive never used it before. ive always just used Quaker state 10w-30. Im getting my 60k servicing done and interested in maybe putting a new kind of oil in if there is a big difference with a diff. brand. thx~

Hi, i use Mobil1......its fully synthetic. I would have to say this is the best oil. Alot of guys will also recommend AMSoil but thats harder to purchase.

Also use a mobil1 or a puralator pureone oil filter. Stay away from FRAM.

You may want to do you own oil/filter changes...the shop is going to get you on this and charge you alot. My oil/filter change costs me 30-35 bucks.

Higher level of protection.
There have been studies where an engine that previously had some Synthetic(Mobil 1) in it was drained. It was then cranked and let run beside an engine with "regular" oil still in it.
When they shut the two down, the Synthetic still protected against viscosity and oil breakdown better....even though there was not very much in there.

I use MObil 1 10w-30. YOu want that oil to get to all the working parts quickly.
You can safely go 5k miles with Synthetic. I could probably go a little longer than that, but I don't. The oil is not terribly dirty when I drain, even after that.

along with longevity, syn has a wider temperature range improving super cold and hot start-ups. I did some numbers or regular oil every 3750 and syn 5000. the difference was only a few $$ more for the added protection and quality.

It does not realy matter what oil you use. As long was it is synthetic type. On my car, I use castrol syn. blend. In the winter, I use 5w-30, in the summer I use 10w-30 with an a bottle of oil stableizer. I save more money buyying cases, plus I do my own work on my car anyway.

What price do everyone pay for oil change?
At my shop, I charge customer $30 for oil change,
but that regular oil plus the filter.

I run Castrol 5-30 year round. I have been debating using synthetic. The last few years I have been putting 5,000 miles or less on the car. I change it every 3,750 or less, but certainly not every 90 days as the luby-loos recommend.

I don't think I will switch to synthetic. I would consider it if I lived in a cold or hot climate, but I am at sea level at the Coast and the climate is quite moderate so at this time I am just going to stick with what I've got. I recently had an oil change at the stealership for the first time in 4 years. They put Pennzoil in. I have read somewhere that it is not the best oil to use, something to do with paraffin in it or something. Anybody know anything about this?

Take a look at the oil analysis spreadsheet at the top of this forum. Let the science tell you which is best. In short Amsoil is the best. Is Amsoil way above all the rest? No it's not! Mobil 1 SuperSyn and Redline have come a long way. Don't let anyone tell you Amsoil is hard to get. There are several people on the board that will sell you a case at deep discounts and have it on your doorstep within 2-3 days.
