Oil Filter Problem!! Help!!!

I have an 02 6spd with 27k miles. I recently decided to switch to Mobil1 10w-30 and Nissan OEM 15208 9E000 oil filter.

Well today I tackled the oil change myself. I did everything fine up until I turned on the car and checked for leaks. I noticed that it was slightly leaking in the oil filter area. I told myself I'll wait by the end of the day and see if its still leaking. By the end of the day it was still slowly leaking. I told myself wtf and checked it out for myself. Well nothing was wrong with the filter but I just threw it out and replaced it with another 15208 9E000. So I had tighten that thing once again, and started the car. I heard a LOUD gushing off oil noise and I was like Fu*K!!!!!! I look below and OIL IS SPILLED EVERYWHERE!!!! I basically wasted 20 bucks on a 5quart mobil 1 and now I am very angry.

What do you guys think is the problem? This is the oil filter? I went to the dealership and the parts guy said to use the 16208 65F00. But I read on the forums that the 15208 9E000 is better build quality/same price/and will fit exactly the same as the 16208 65F00. What is the deal here? SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP

How familiar are you with changing your own oil? Did you make sure the sealing surfaces of the gasket and the mating surface were clean, and was it tightened enough?

How did the filter look after the last disaster, and where did the oil leak out of?

I am a verteran at oil changes. Done many changes on my old 96 se 5spd. I checked the rubber gasket and it wasn't stuck onto the engine. I applied a small amount of oil onto the gasket before putting it on the engine. I basically did everything correctly.

The 15208 9E000 is the correct filter size for the vq35de right? I talked to a few other people and they are starting to tell me I got the wrong filter n ****. Man wtf. I am seriously scared to turn my car on again becuz it will gush out oil again. Somebody have a similiar experience to this? Please reply and help!!!

Can somebody answer this question at least......IS THE 15208 9E000 is CORRECT FILTER SIZE FOR THE VQ35DE!? The dealer told me 16208 65F00 was the correct filter for the VQ35DE and I'm starting to think I should have used that one.

With that out of the way, The car still gushes oil out everytime i try to start it up. I am planning to get it towed to a local jiffy lube cuz my friend's dad works there. Hopefully he can fix the problem.

Thats weird. The only thing I can think of (if you're sure there isn't a gasket stuck there) is that the threads for the filter area are stripped and pushing the filter off when the pressure builds. Take it to the dealer and get it checked out. Jiffy may just muscle the filter back on.

One final question, did you put the crush ring on the filter? Some have done that, you shouldn't.

Not sure of the Nissan part numbers, but if the dealer is telling you XXX part number...why dont you go get one of those, top of your oil and be done with it?

OR, get a Mobil 1 Filter (108 I believe) and top off? Not sure why you have to take it to Screwy Lube to have an inferior filter put on it to solve the problem?

That is if you think the filter is the issue. Since we are not looking at the leak ourselves, we are dependant on you to tell us where the oil is coming from. Basically, I am thinking you have the wrong filter and its not sealing correctly since you stated that the rubber gasket is not "stacked".

Good Luck...

The 65F00 and the 9E000 BOTH FIT , that is not the problem.

Okay I just found out that the oil cooler (where the filter mounts onto) is BENT. I have to get this part replaced because the bent surface isn't allowed the filter to seal properly. All the filters I tried were fine. I just have a bent oil cooler. And it sucks because this part is on backorder....Looks like my max will be down for a month =(

Call DAVEB, he got a part locator and will be able to either sell you one and ship it or tell you where to get one locally. Also call around Infiniti Dealers, they might have some...
that's what I had to do with an ABS Sensor. I am in Chicago area and it was on backorder, so I got one overnighted from Pittsburgh, and as the repair was covered by Nissan, they just sent me a reimbursement check.

Well, now you know what it is and on the plus side you have an extra filter for next time. Put it in a bag and save it
