GL4 in 3rd gen 5 speed?
I'm pretty sure I know the answer but figured I'd ask to make sure:
I've just bought an 89 SE 5 speed with about 40k on the reman 5 speed tranny. The previous owner had left some of the manual tranny fluid in the car for me, and I just noticed its GL-5. I read the sticky above that says GL-4 is required but I couldnt tell if that was for 4th gens only. The tranny was from "Man Trans" and I haven't found any info yet on that. Its smooth, but alittle notchy, but I assumed that was linkage needing adjustment.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks, Joe

Yes, you need GL-4. I just put some MT-90 in my tranny on friday, and I like it alot. You'll need 4.5 qts to fill the tranny up, so I'd just order 5.

Cool...I went ahead and changed it to some GL-4 Manual Tranny fluid from Napa until I can get the Redline ( a couple of weeks til I have the extra $$ ). Just didnt want to leave the GL-5 in any longer than I had to. Its butter smooth on the shifts now. Awesome! Thanks for this great site with all these resources!
