Are fuel injector cleaners safe?

I am always tempted to buy a bottle of fuel injector cleaner everytime i see it but I'm kind of worried about it damaging my car. How can a little bottle of this stuff that costs about $1 make such a big change, as they claim it can? Anyone have experience with these?

Use Chevron w/ Techron Fuel System Cleaner. I don't think it can harm your car since that's the stuff they mix in with the gas that they sell (no Chevrons around Chicago)

Then there's BG 44k Fuel System Cleaner that many dealers use and then there's Sea Foam

I stick w/ Techron since I can get it anywhere. There is always a chance of doing harm w/ a fuel injector cleaner, even quality ones, because the deposits they break up still have to pass through the injector nozzle and if a large one gets dislodged in the fuel line and gets to the injector before it is dissolved by the cleaner, then it can clog and damage the injector. I dump a bottle of Techron into my tank 200 miles after every oil change to keep the fuel system clean.

Yup, that's where I get it, either Walmart or Kmart.

Should be there. Just make sure to get the fuel system cleaner and not the "PRO-GARD" stuff. http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/nafl...t/fueladd.shtm

I have used Valvoline FI cleaner in my 96 Maxima for about 100,000 miles with no problems.

Maybe more important is changing the fuel filter frequently.
