What type of oil should be used?

Im getting my oil changed today and am wonderingwhat type of oil I should ask my friend to put in?

What kind of car do you have? If you don't use synthetic, consider Castrol GTX 5W - 30 and a Nissan filter.

I'm not sure about the particulars in the manuals for various years of the Max, but the manual in my 04 G35 (which of course, is also VQ35 powered) calls for 5w-30, 10w-30, or 10w-40. In my studies of VQ used oil analysis results (my own and others), I've reached the tentative conclusion that the VQ prefers thick 30 wt oils or even 40s, from a wear reduction perspective. If, however, you're looking for ultimate race performance, you'd want the thinnest oil you can get away with to reduce fluid drag/friction.
