Apparently Nissan clutch bands are very sensitive to the zinc content of the ATF. Most aftermarket fluids have much higher zinc content than Nissan recommends (even the hallowed Mobil 1 has too much). Next time I change my fluid, it will be all Matic-D.

Interesting....I haven't heard this. The best way to determine any ATF's affect on your tranny is to have it analyzed regularly (yearly, for example).

I spoke at length with BigTexan7 who now works as a tech for a Lexus dealership. He was telling about Nissans clutch material being sensitive to zinc.

I have been using OTC DexronIII for more than a year and no problems whatsoever -- for the matter of fact my shifts are smoother than OEM fluid.

To the previous question about subsitutes..

DexronIII(H) = Nissan Matic ATF
DexronIII(G) + Lubegard Black = Nissan Matic ATF

mzmtg: How 'bout Amsoil ATF? Does our auto tranny prefer high zinc content?

EDIT: What I meant to ask was, why our auto prefer lower zinc content?

i dont know squat but having METAL in fluids = scratching and not lubing.

zinc is metal, so we don't want that in our trannys .. the thing is, where do people know all this sampling of fluids? where does it say that the nissan ATF has lesser zinc content.?

my dealer don't even carry coolant..
