Ya, so just wondering if anyone is running the series 2000 0w-30 at Amsoil's recommended 35K or 1 year change interval?

I am using Amsoil 10-30 here in Tx and my last change was 20k. Took me about 18-24 months to get there, I forgot when I changed the oil LOL.

I sent an e-mail to the Amsoil techs about switching a customers '99 Max to the 0w-30 Series 2000 oil. At the time the car had about 155,000 miles on it; all with synthetic 10w-30. The reply I got said that all should be fine however there may be a small amount of smoke at start up. The tech suggested that the customer stick with the 10w-30 since it had been running it from day one and not using any oil. He changes the oil at 25,000 miles and the filter at 12,500 miles.

My sponsor has a few customers who use it and they change their oil once per year. They also use the Amsoil filters and change them out every 12,000 miles of so. I think if I bought a new vehicle today I would start it off with the Series 2000 0w-30.

Absolutely positively do not go 35k on the Amsoil S2k. Oil analysis on here show 1 year or up to 18k at the very most for our Maximas. Every car is different, but unless you are driving all highway miles, you will never get close to the 35k change interval unless you have an Amsoil bypass filter which isn't cost effective in a passenger car since the filters are so expensive. My suggestion to you is that you go 10k with a oil filter change at 5k. When you change the oil at 10k, get an oil analysis done by Blackstone labs. If they say it looks ok, change filters at the 5k and 10k mark and go to 15k before changing you oil. Again, send in oil analysis and see what Blackstone says. After a couple oil analysis, you should know what you change intervals should be. Always send in the results here to Bill so he can add them to the spreadsheet. You can help others that way.

Oh, and buy the Amsoil from either Talkinghorse or iwannabmw. They sell at dealer cost to maxima.org members. 5w-30 is $4.60 a quart and the S2K is $6.60 a quart. You can't get it any cheaper.

Yeah, I wouldn't personally go over a year on Nissan VQ/VE/VG engines.....they don't seem to like Amsoil in there for more than a year, regardless of how often the filter is changed.

The "thickening" issues I had over time concerned me the most, not anything from an overall wear standpoint.

I tend to agree with them about not needing to change from a good thing, but I really don't know how the "tech" can arbitrarily say that the engine will smoke upon start-up if the car is not presently using any oil...that's usually a sign of worn valve guide seals. For what its worth, I service some maximas in that mileage range with Series 2000 0w-30 with no problems.
