I am gonna get an oil change done today. I usually go to the dealer to get a nissan filter and then go to the mobil gas station and have them throw in some fresh mobil one. Would it be tragic for my engine if I just say screw it and let them throw in a fram or whatever filter they have down there being that the place is closed? Besides the nissan filters are costing me added monsy to each oil change. I wont bother anymore if it is not truly necessary. Thanks.

 

I used to use only genuine Nissan filters, but I've gone to the dark side. Fram, Nappa, whatever I can get my hands on.

Don't chintz out on the oil filter. There have been a million threads on this. Stick with the Nissan OEM filter or use a Mobil 1 filter, not Fram.

 

i use mobil1, my car hasnt exploded yet.

 

If you just use Fram, use the upper line models at least.

 

i would probably use aftermarket but when i'm in the mood, i just buy a case of nissan oil filters .... we have 2 4th gens and a 99 quest that use the same filters so it works out.

 

Numerous threads what? I've never seen one about using an OEM oil filter and I read almost every day a few times a day when I'm bored...

I've always used bosch filters from autozone since I've owned my car; how much is a OEM filter from a dealer? And what is the summarized version of it's importance? It's going to accomplish the same task... filter oil.

i use bosche premium filters. half the price of mobile 1, and still good i guess.

k & N......i know there expensive, but my max gets about 200 miles a month, and i run synthetic, so they last a long time

 

k&n filters are extremly good they even cool the tempreature of the oil down a little bit which is nice very expensive though.

 

and i love the 1" socket on the end of the filter, that makes it so nice when torquing it and taking it off

In order to find a thread concerning using an OEM Nissan oil filter, one must peruse the Fluids & Lubricants forum. Try that some day.

It seems to me that using an OEM filter is as common knowledge as only using NGK spark plugs, or have you not read that either?

It is also beyond me why someone would go to the expense of using synthetic oil and bemoan the cost of using a Nissan OEM oil filter. That makes absolutely no sense. You might as well stick with dino if you're that cheap.

If everything that came from the dealer was so great then nobody would ever need to mod their car.

The best thing to do would be to get an oil filter relocation kit and use two big *** PF1 size filters.

Motorcraft filters use a purolator PureOne element inside.

Pep boys Proline filters are actually purolator. The same ones are on the next shelf for $3 more. Different colors. Same filter. This is what I use on my maxima.

Fram uses cardboard in their filters where they should use rubber. I never buy fram anything anymore. They can bite the big one.

Fram is owned by Allied Signal. When the Cardboard thing broke out it pissed me off so much because they always say how great their filters are. So I never buy any Allied Signal products. Period.

Another great filter is the Hastings. Hastings makes filters for big trucks. Pronto, a brand carried by some private parts shops use Hastings filter media.

I used fram oil filters and air filters on my old car ['90 mazda 626]. I still have it and it still runs 184k+ no transmission or engine work has been done on it. On the max I'm using purolator pureone.

 

My max has always had synthetic oil and a non-OEM filter. I run Amsoil fully synthetic oil and an Amsoil oil filter. (I also use Amsoil ATF and an Amsoil air filter) I change the oil out every 12,500 miles, which is half the miles of what Amsoil recommends. She has 164,xxx on the clock and runs like the day I drove her out of the showroom. Oil is cheap....engines aren't. Don't cheap out. Use good quality fluids.

 

Not necessarily. There are minimum standards that all oil and oil filters must adhere to.

Depending on what Jiffy Lube you go to, you get at least an STP filter. Not very good, but better than nothing. And you shouldnt be worried as long as your car runs fine.

 

Okay fine. it was only this once. Teh only real reason i posted was that I was unable to get an OEM one on a sunday. So the OEM has better guts- But I am sure using the purolator one that they put in is not gonna gause any damge to my car. Sheesh FLame City LOL.

anyhow, i use:

amsoil oil filters, k&n oil filters, will try napa i guess.

i use amsoil 5w-30, and im just weary how much the OIL FILTER can last, yet i wont doubt the oil itself.

Splurg for the Nissan Filter

 

I just bought two Nissan filters on Saturday. I was going to buy the WIX filter at NAPA bought they were going to have to bring it in and I didn't feel like coming back in a couple of hours. I understand that Purolator PureOne are quite good. You can get them at Burnaby Auto Parts locally but they're Cdn$4.00 more than Nissan OEM.

do we have any users that still swear against the 65F00 filter? i've only been using this one since i've bought the car (almost 45k miles now) and some people think it's ok and others don't.....anybody????
