Honestly, it doesn't matter if you put synthetic in the tranny or dino, it could leak if it's never been changed. Keeping it in there could cost you more money in repairs in the long run.

I take it the car is an autotragic. You probably should have had the full flush service, rather than the drain and fill procedure @ 90K. You're probably good for another 30K, but I would be inclined to flush the transmission next time. The filter should have been replaced when you did the drain and fill.

Has the filter been replaced?

I don't have that situation as I drive a 5-speed and replaced the transaxle gear oil a couple of months ago.

rmurdoch is right on with this one. Our cars take about 10-12 quarts to flush the system.

Well

Well for one thing there is no filter in the auto transmission on a 5th Gen. There is a little screen but not a filter. Any how at 90 K if your the second owner & you have never flushed the tranny & your not sure if first owner did you really need to do it. Replacing 3 Quarts of fluid is a bandaid at best. Do it yourself & save the dough. Pick up twelve quarts of Mobil 1 ATF , a tranny pan gasket part #31397-80X01 , 21 new bolts part #31377-32X02 from nissan & a can of brake cleaner . You need to drop the tranny pan, clean it along with the magnets & metal screen & flush out all that rotten atf that has porbably been in there 5 years & 90K. Show your car a little love & it will treat you right . Hey I am no mechanic but it aint overhaulin a engine. Here is a link to a fellow org members cardomain with step by step instuction on how to do this. It is fairly easy to do especialy if you have some one to start & stop the engine for you. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/335521/3

No problems here.

The weekend after I purchased the car in 02 I replaced the oil & tranny fluid with Mobil 1 5W30 & Mobil 1 ATF. Synthetic is the only way to go. I also have a B&M Transmission cooler. After speaking with Jeff at Maximum Tuning he told me I would be better off not changing the fluid with the VB Mod this way I would know if I had any slippping or problems that it would not be new fluid causing it. Now a year later I just flushed my tranny fluid 11 quarts & could barely tell the difference between the old & the new fluid & the pan was clean. A couple of tiny fragments on the magnets was all. As far as your power from second to third if you want it to go just hit the gas. If you feather it or push on the pedal lightly well thats exactly what your going to get light acceleration. Hey a year with the VB Mod & I couldent be happier

i have a 97, 65k, auto

im in debate on whether i should just use regular MOBIL ATF, or SYN ATF. I heard SYN would ruin my system or what not, because of the age of it.
