started to proceed with first oil change....

so I got two jackstands that I could use to keep the car up during the oil change. bought 5 quarts of castrol gtx and a mobil m1-100 filter. i took out the jack from the trunk and was about to jack the car up. I noticed there was a groove in the jack and it had an illustration to put it under the middle of 3 grooves on the body underbody. All i ended up doing was bending the crap out of that one spot. The body underbody didn't even go into the groove on the jack. Am i jacking it on the wrong spot?

also, do i jack up the passnger or driver's side?

The middle tab in the car is supposed to fit inside the slit of the scissor jack. How can you mess that up? If it didn't fit at first why keep going and bend the hell out of it? Also, invest some money in a real jack.

So your car is a 99, and you are just now doing the first oil change??

.....Or the first change that you are doing?

If you have 2 ramps, just drive the car onto the ramps, much easier.

Right on! I've used ramps in my younger years and consider them dangerous (likely to drive off the end or off the side). A good hydraulic floor jack is not that expensive and much safer (but you need a good place to store it).

well obviously i was going to start my 'own first oil change'.

and i assumed the oem jack would suit the car no matter what. All the other cars in my family have just a flat contact point for the jack.
