Quick question about Tranny oil

I just got the 5 quarts of Amsoil 75w90 Synthetic GL-4 tranny oil for my 5-speed and I want to get rid of the Castrol no name crap they put in my tranny 1500 miles ago. How many quarts do I need? Is 5 not enough?

5 is enough. It will take 4.75 quarts

According to the Haynes manual, it takes 4.5 to 4.8 litres or 4.75 to 5.05 US quarts. I believe LSD takes slightly more than non-LSD.

Ok do I need to do anything special to get rid of the GL-5 Castrol crap or do I just drain it and fill with Amsoil?

LSD takes less fluid. It is about 4.25qts.

5qts should be plently. In either case you should have a little bit to spare.

The only thing I can think of is to put new fluid in and change it again pretty soon. There is really no other way to flush it other than taking the tranny apart and cleaning it.

JClaw,

If you want to extract the most gear oil, purchase a Pela marine oil extractor pump. I use it to get every last drop out of the oil pan by sticking the tube in the dipstick opening. The same principle works for the gearbox oil pan.

I am not sure about shipping to Canada, but this gives you the idea of the proper tool. You could probaly find this tool in a marine supply store.
