Seafoam

Hey Guys,
This might sound like a stupid question - but I'm actually interested in using the Seafoam product that everyone keeps talking about on this board. My question is, do I just pour that stuff into the gas tank?? Does it work any different than a fuel injector cleaner? Will I notice any differences??

Thanks in advance....

gas tank its ok, what you have to do is put in a hose in the engine bay, where it goes directly to the engine, thats where the good stuff stays, (carbon build up) look around these pages of seam foam and exactly which hose to put it in. I don't remmeber the name...

BTW everyone says it feels like the car is more responsive. and feels cleaners in the power department, also it starts easier.... exactly what it says in the bottle... it does.

P.S. folow the instructions...

FWIW;
Once in awhile I'll add to the gas of the carb'd cars, for all I add about an ounce to the crankcase a day ro two before an oil change.

Hey, thanks for the quick replies- but does anybody happen to know where your supposed to put seafoam for the best results?? As Guinader had stated that it works by putting it in the fuel tank -but even better in a different hose...

Thanks again...

pour 1/3 into a cup, i used a soda bottle that i cut in half...with the car running, unplug the brake booster line, the car will try to shut off, just give it throttle to keep it running, suck up the seafoam slowly...doing it too quik mite flood something??, thats wut people say, so suk it up slowly and then turn the car off and let it sit for 15 minutes. make sure u connect the hose bak. trun carbak on, smoke!! its burning carbon off. i got a bottle at autozone for $5, the only downside ive heard of is ur o2 sensors could go, but if it goes its because it was gonna go soon anyways, mine didnt go....looks very cool wen smokin, makes u think its working or doing something...have fun

ok now, how do I suck it up "slowly"? Do I reconnect the brake booster line as soon as done with the sucking or after I come back in 15 minutes ?

Just reconnect the brake booster hose as soon as you've turned the car off, it's just to get the seafoam into the internals. Put it back on as soon as possible so you don't forget.

just go ahead and connect the booster line rite wen u finish...wen i say slowly i mean dont just shove the tube to the bottom of the cup, let it "sip" the liquid, u feel me? little by little thats all

hey, thanks for the quick replies - I'm kinda new at this whole 'disconnecting the line' idea, but I went out and found the brake booster line. How do I take the tube off as it has the metal clip?? Do I squeeze the things sticking off of the metal clip in order to get it off?? Also, how else would you measure 1/3 out? 1/3 of the bottle ....? Have you noticed any difference?? So you d/c the tube, took the one end and slowly sucked in the seafoam from a cup that you had - and once that was done you turned off the car hooked up the tube again, and let it sit for 15 mins. Is that correct?? Sorry for soo many questions just wanna make sure I get it right....

Thanks again...

Later...

EDIT - If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase your bottle of Seafoam from? Only asking because I called up my local Pep Boys and they told me they dont' "handle" Seafoam??

autozone must have it. advance autoparts do too.

when i do my seafoam, best results come from doing it directly into the intake manifold.

one day before an oill change, heat up the car, shut off. open up the intake assembly, use a hosed funnel, pour 3/8 bottle of seafoam into the manifold while holding the throttle open. then put the intake assembly back. wait 5-10 minutes. crank up the engine. at this time, the engine will bog and sputter, give it a little gas till it holds. then let it idle a little bit. then every 10 seconds, gas down to redline twice. do this repetition for about 2-3 minutes then take the car out for an aggressive drive. you'll smoke the whole neighborhood. so pick a good time when you won't make traffic situations to do this. so drive till you finish up the smoke.

on the day of the oil change; with an warm engine, shut off. pour 1/4 bottle into the crank case. then open up the pcv and pour about 1/4 bottle into the that hole on the valve cover. then plug everything back. go for another aggresive drive for 15 minutes. may or may not get smoke, but just drive up to 15 minutes. then shut off car and quickly flush out the engine oil. you'll get lots of crap if your internals are dirty.

after the oil change, put the rest (1/8) of the seafoam into the gas tank. this will stabilize your gasoline, clean up your injectors and eliminate bubbles and water pouches.

that should do it. i never do the brake booster flush, so i don't have an input on that.

pm me for more questions. i do this often.

Buy a Haynes manual before you attempt to do anything.

Sir step away from your car! I think you need to do some serious reading before you even attempt to touch anything in the engine bay.

Don't Mess with the intake manifold...
Just pop off the brake booster line. It is easier to remove it where there is a junction in the line about 8 inches from the brake booster. Just put 1/3-1/2 of the bottle in a shallow cup and let it suck it up, don't need to rev motor, just let it suck it down, if the car almost stalls let it suck up less. Then right after you get the last bit down have someone kill your car. Let it sit for 30min-an hour. Go for a drive. Car should be hard to keep alive at first. Also, make sure your engine is up to temp before you introduce the seafoam!

Drive hard to try to knock out the stuff seafoam frees up.
Here I am leaving my driveway. My neighbors are thinking "What A Piece Of S#!T!"

haha, I knew I would scare someone with that question.
Anyhoo, heres some pics of my engine bay. You'll be surprised that I've already cleaned my throttle body, IACV, replaced fuel filter and air filter. Im about to do the transmission fluid soon.
Now could anyone be so kind and circle the intake manifold and crank case from these pics ?

Thanks

The crankcase is where you add the oil to. Screw the cap of and add Seafoam. However, there are better products than Seafoam to add to the crankcase and gas tank. Read up on LubeControl LC and FP for the crankcase and gas tank, respectively, and AutoRX for the crankcase. I would be inclined to only use Seafoam through the brake booster or PCV hose.

Forget it in your crankcase (oil) unless you want to do an oil change very soon. And don't bother with the intake manifold. It is just as effective to use the vac lines and they donty require much modification at all, just pulling off a hose.

yeh, just take thehose and stick it in the cup....squeeze the clip with pliers and slide it down the hose and then twist the hose off...make sure u pull off the correct end of the hose tho...but im sure u wont make that mistake, just to make sure tho wen u pull off the end of the hose put ur finger to it to see if its sucking in air...then stick it in the cup...voila, smoke

I think that it is just the seafoam burning. I did this and afterwards, I removed one of my sparkplugs and look at the top of my piston with a flashlight. It had the same amount of carbon build up as before.

Its still a good product, and I will use it a couple more times to see if I can SEE any results, but at $5 a can dont expect a brand new engine...

use a small flathead screwdriver to crack the hose loose. gently slip it between the hose and connection and work your way around all sides of the hose. be carefull, old hoses tear easily, and old plastic conn. get very brittle !!!!

as for the seafoam... does help a little. be carefull, using too much can foul plugs, burn o2 sensors, damage cat. or worse. it now comes in aeresol cans so you can control how much your puttin in. yeah, the smoke might look "cool", but it's from using too much !! a friend used it to winterize his boat motor, a little too much at high rpm...busted a rod. not "cool"

Next time you talk about putting Sea Foam into different parts of the car, you might want to differentiate between Sea Foam Carbon Cleaner and Sea Foam Deep Creep.

When I first saw a question about "sea foam in an engine," I thought they were talking about the after effects of Hurricane Ivan.

I used Seafoam deepcreep today in my brake booster hose. I didnt feel much of a differance, nor did I see much smoke. Could something be wrong?...or do I just have a clean engine.
