waste oil

Hey guys. I do all the oil changes on my cars and have a lot of old waste oil laying around in the garage. I was doing research on where i can get rid of the oil without being slapped with $1,000 fine. Instead of driving a far distance to a oil recycle center, i was thinking if i brought it to one of the local mechanics.

Anyways, I was wondering how you guys get rid of your waste oil.

Our city has a recycle location that takes used oil. Most auto stores also take it, but usually limit the volume you can leave with them.

Anything - milk jugs, windshield washer fluid bottles, the bottles the oil came in, etc. I use whatever I have handy.

The plastic in milk jugs tends to be too thin. The others are good. I bought a number of large plastic bottles of Mobil 1 each in a 5-quart container. I use those when they are empty. Plastic bleach containers are also strong enough. Use any gallon plastic bottle that has heavier plastic than a milk jug.

Return to auto stores. They must take it. Containers. Go to auto/home improvement store and buy a 5 gal plastic container. Makes it easier than fiddling with old oil in many little pain in the **** containers that the caps get lost etc..
