Is it a full synthetic, or a synthetic blend? If its a blend don't bother, your wasting your money. If your using a full synthetic, are you doing extended OCI's? If not, your also wasting your money.

Valvoline oil is a way down the food chain. I wouldn't use it and it is not the oil of choice among BITOG members.

Synpower

Synpower is a full synthetic oil that performs better than 90% of all synthetics available, regardless of viscosity. I do not work for or sell oil products, but have used Valvoline brand oils for 16 years in many vehicles and never had a problem. Just because its flash point (vaporization) is 15 degrees centigrade higher than comparable Mobil 1, and its pour point averages 5 degrees centigrade LOWER than any other synthetic does not place it lower on the "food chain". If you are looking for a "blend" then DuraBlend from Valvoline is what you are refering to. Durablend does not change much from their dino oil, except the 20w50 pours at the same temp as the dino 5w30. Otherwise, there is enhaced detergent and wear agents that have to be consider.
Perromance of ANY synthetic oil vs. dino oil is worth the cost difference. In several vehicles I have "tested" mileage return running synthetic oils and without exception, all the cars using synthetics have returned improved mileage that pays for the cost differential between dino and synthetic oil. That includes my 2005 Toyota Prius....

Perhaps your tests are unique, because I have yet to see any evidence on BITOG that synthetic oil provides better fuel economy than dino oil.

I have never used synthetic oil but am switching to Esso Extra XD3, 0w30, PAO, full synthetic about late January/early February when I am finished with my AutoRX rinse phase.

I get the impression that Synpower is average synthetic oil, OK if you can buy it cheap. I think the 5w40 Euro formula Synpower is a much better oil with more additives.

I'm also a member over on BITOG (ekpolk), and recall that the topic of Valvo syn came up recently, though I can't find the thread at the moment. Anyway, the thrust of discussion was that a member had called Valvo and they reported that their syn line is now PAO based (as M1 has been all along), vs. the G-III hydrocracked product it once was. If this is correct, and I certainly can't certify that it is, this would be fairly big news. Of course if you blend a poor additive package into a superior G-IV/PAO base oil, you'll end up with a crappy oil (not suggesting this is the case with Valvo syn). My point is that maybe, emphasize maybe, this product bears watching, because if it has a good add pack, it may perform as well or better than M1 (and other similar products). I'll be looking to see if we get a UOA or two surfacing over on BITOG. Stay tuned. . .

I've used Valvoline Synpower oil in my Maxima and think its a fine oil if you just don't use it too long (ie: no longer than 5K miles). I have a uoa report in Bill's oil spreadsheet if you care to check it out. If you can buy it a special low price, all the better.

The noack for the Valvoline Synpower 30wts is very low for over the counter synthetic labeled motor oil and it protects very well under normal driving and shorter oil change intervals . No doubt some pao is used in it but probably it's a pao/group III blend of unknown percentages .

For performance engines and or harsh driving conditions theres a couple better choices in my opinion .
