How Bad is This?

It's oil change day today and I picked up my usual Mobile 1 filter. When I went to install the filter and took it out of the box, instead of the Mobile 1 filter, out dropped a blue STP filter! I guess some shopper at Autozone decided to pull the 'ole switcheroo to get a more expensive filter at the STP price and legft me screwed in the process!

Once I calmed down, I did some looking at the old Mobile 1 and the STP and they look identical on the bottom. Both have the same cutouts, spring, etc. They even have an identical letter "y" stamped on the metal. They looked pretty darn close to the same to me. the STP threaded up just the same, so I went with it as I didn't have much choice at the time.

My question is, did I do a bad thing to install the STP filter? Should I do a shorter interval between changes just in case? Anyone have any input about the STP they can share would be appreciated.

Are you sure that the STP was fitted for a Maxima? Anyways I would of just go back and demand for what you paid for.

umm they may be simialar, but no way STP has got the same filter material as m1, and other non visable parts are likely very different.

Return it and get what you paid for, and in the future, open your filter boxes before paying to make sure you have the right brand and size.

LOL. You should've gotten the Mobil1 not only because it's a lot more expensive but because, it holds more dirt, filters better and has a much harder shell for high pressure. Otherwise if you don't care about losing money then just stick with the STP.

well since you used it they wil not return it most of the time. Autozone is hella rich and they are the stingest asshols on earth about returns and spending any money...so make sure youhave a good excuse.
