auto rx in auto tranny

As most know the auto trannys of maximas are notorious for hard shifts from 1-2 and I have heard some good things about auto rx. So has anyone actually tried it on our trannys and does it help? Is it worth it?

Oh yeah...I got a 97 auto with 165,000 miles. Very hard shifts from 1-2 feels almost like with dr mod but is only rough above 2000 rpms and below 4500 rpms.

Do it- your tranny sounds exactly like mine. I have auto rx in my car right now. i am 600 miles into the cleaning phase and if smoothens out the tranny the same way that it does the engine, you will be very pleased. I would love to have your feedback on the product in the tranny.

I have semi-hard 1-2 shifts when its cold too. I might put in amsoil ATF soon. I heard that it helps.

I'm not sure what auto-rx is supposed to do for an auto tranny. This stuff is a gentle cleaner and seal conditioner. Auto tranny fluid is already loaded with detergents.

And one is not really going to "fee" the effects of auto rx in their engine unless it was really bad to begin with. I imagine is on par with trying to feel the effect an intake mod has

I've used the product in my crankcase and have experienced a quieter engine. I used it prior to switching to synthetic oil as insurance against potential leaks. I am not experiencing any leaks.

I have a 5-speed transmission and don't think I will be using it in my transaxle, but if I had an older autotragic I would be inclined to give it a whirl.

You're telling me you can't feel the difference with an entirely new intake? I could understand if you just changed the air filter and couldn't feel a difference but an entirely new intake is a different story.

I have a 96 GXE, tranny oil had 30K miles on it and the old oil was tan color but it didn't smell burn or anything, so I flushed it with 10QT of Nissan metric D tranny fluid, added 6oz of Auto-RX, drove it for 1500 miles and the fluid didn't look all that dirty, so I kept driving it till 3000 miles, the oil became darker red so the Auto-RX must of cleaned up something in the tranny, during the cleaning phase I had a somewhat hard 1~2nd shift, felt kinda like quick shift and pop the clutch on manual tran, so I'd flushed the tranny with about 14QT of Mobil 1 synthetic ATF till I see clean fluid coming out. Now the tranny is butter smooth across the range, no more hard shift from 1~2nd gear either.

By the way, my max has only 72K miles....barely drive it in the past.

I dunno about Auto-RX, but i've recently used SEAFOAM TRANSTUNE after wich the ATF was drained and i went with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF as replacement. The cold (not warmed-up) 1-2 shift got better but is still present. But after the car warms up, it's buttery smooth accross the board (i have 128K mi on mine)

I'm doing the AutoRX treatment right now, as well. I don't think you'll notice the difference in the transmission until you change the ATF and get new fluid in there - that's when you'll notice a big change.

I'm looking forward to changing all my fluids in the next few hundred miles..

yup sure does! have 205k miles on 96 and did a filter cleaning and amsoil refill, drove for a week, and did change again. You can tell it has gotten better!

UPDATE! Put in amsoil ATF and been driving around with it for almost a year now. Those 1-2 hard shifts have pretty much disappeared!

I would suggest not putting anything in the tranny except Lugegard platinum, this kind of helps the fluid and in a way helps the tranny (but does not clean things under). Auto-Rx has some great reviews but then if the tranny is getting a good doze of ATF every 20K miles, why monkey with cleaners. Just my thought..
