got wrong oil in

I went to change my oil today and guy that helps out the mechanic mistakenly put in 10w40 instead of my regular 10w30. Is it ok to interchange oils like that or I’m looking at some problems here? ?
I did read the sticky on oils, but didn’t find anything referring 10w40.

It will be fine. Worst case you'll lose a bit of fuel mileage. The recommended viscosity for European VQs is mostly 5W40 and goes up to 20W50.

It is OK to interchange oils. Would not do it with every oil change, but no problem.

The 10W40 is heavier oil than you need. It could cause difficulty starting problems on very cold mornings. Most US Max's call for 5W30 (lighter oil), but I use 10W30 in my 04 because I like the better protection given by the slightly heavier oil in hot-engine conditions. With the 10W40 you are heavier still -- this is mainly a racing oil or for very worn engines. Would go back to 10W30 on your next change -- and the shop should give you a price break for putting in the wrong oil.

This is why I always change my own oil at every change. That way I know what was done and what was put in -- because I did it all -- and know.

114k, 10w-40 no problem at all, i have considered more than once using that all the time in my engine (mostly because of euro reccomendations)

The last time I took my car to get the oil changed, I gave them Mobil1 SuperSyn 5w30 and told them to use it instead of whatever dino blend they normally use.

They brought my car out fifteen minutes later, and my oil was still sitting in the back seat. I told the manager, and he offered to change my oil again. I told him just to refund me, and I went home and did my first DIY oil change.

I have changed my own oil ever since. You can't trust most dealership or mechanic shop idiots to do anything right.
