I'm not an expert but as far as I know "high mileage" oil is not for high mileage engines but for the engines that are about to die with worn out rings, leaking seals and head gasket.

I wouldn't use high mileage oil unless you got leaks or your car consumes oil.

Yeah, I guess you should try it in this case. Let's see what others have to say.

If you'd like to try the high mileage stuff to cut down on the oil burning, go for it. Just don't expect it to be as effective as addressing the real cause.

I don't think it worth rebuilding the engine at this stage. Most likely he needs new piston rings.

You have 213K miles? Just keep doing what you've been doing.

My friend has this issue. So if we see white smoke coming from the exhaust after the car has ran for a while he is in need of new piston rings? Hmm... I figured as much. Would that Engine Restore stuff help him out any while utilizing the GTX High mileage stuff?

You should use it, but it won't make much of a difference. Try to stay away from quaker state!!

nah, white smoke it probably from carbon deposits. Check if the car consumes oil and if black colored oil accumulates on the oil cap. If oil consumption is minimal and the oil cap is clean your piston rings are most likely fine.

Hey guys,
I just bought and used Castrol High Mileage engine oil and my car has 119,000 miles. This was my first time using it. For my next oil change, should I go to the regular Castrol GTX oil or stick with the High Mileage? thanks in advance

I vote for GTX. According to the stickies it's the best oil that Castrol makes.

You're saying it like your post was based on empirical evidence.

Sorry about that, I guess I overlooked your post. I also think that I will be switching to the normal Castrol GTX
