i got a set of ngk iridiums for my VQ30DE 5th gen, but i'm used to engine bays of v8 fords, i can easily spot the coils and spark plugs, but my maxima engine is way different, i think i can see 3, but i don't know where the other three are, whats the proper way to change my plugs? also, do i have to gap them? what is gapping them and how should i do this? or should i just wait till monday and have my mechanic do it since he promissed he would if i bought him lunch, i want to do it this sunday so i can change the oil too at the same time

 

first this should be in 5th gen forum as spark plugs aren't a fluid or a lubricant
second you have a VQ30DEK

Fourth they are pregapped if they have a -11 after the part number. I would go with NGK's BKR5E-11. (recommended gap is .44)
Search around there are a million threads about spark plugs for our cars, maybe you should read your 5th gen stickies....

thanks!! that helps a ton, now i just have to borrow or buy a torque wrench, i dont want to over tighten, nor do i want to leave them loose, is it really necessary?

btw, i got 6 NGK BKR5EIX-11 5464 spark plugs for $5.95 each, are these the right ones and already gapped right? the guide says to gap at .44? but looking at the model number am i to understand they are at .11?

 

no you multiply the the 4mm by the -11 or whatever it may be in our case, elelven and that equals .44

 

Buy the regapping tool anyway. I know the NGK's are coming with the plastic collar to prevent the gap from changing in transit but of the last six I bought, I had to regap two of them. The tool is a buck and it's worth it for the piece of mind of knowing you have properly gapped plugs.
