PSI for A/C system

My friend's(GTMUGGS) Max is not blowing cold air from the A/C. We assume it is low on R134a. He has a gauge but the gauge reads 60psi when we test line near the P/S fluid on his car. He read mine and mine said 100psi. My A/C blows cold. What should the 96 max read for A/C pressure. Sorry if it sounds stupid I have no clue when it comes to A/C systems.

I suggest you get it done by a professional who knows what they are doing.

Get the dye injected as well, which helps to trace the source of any leaks should the R134a leak out again.

Thanks for the reply. It didn't really leak out. He let it out....I know it's not environmental sound but that's what happened. He only let it out because the gauge said "danger" at 60psi so it obviously wasn't meant for a maxima. Now he needs to add it but is not sure if it's safe to add pass 100psi.

Either 60 or 100 PSI on the low pressure side is too high. Are you measuring while the compressor is running? Anyway, Maxima uses variable cycle compressor so the low side pressure does not really indicate the charge level. The sure way is to evacuate and recharge with the correct amount.

o i c....thanks for the info. We measured the tube that's right up near the Power Steering resovoir. Not sure if that's the low pressure one or not.

If it was 'only' 100psi, then it's the low side....

well, that's assuming you measured it when the compressor was running.

It should read ~30psi while the compressor is running. high side will be ~250psi.

when the compressor is off, the entire system will equalize around 100psi..

Of course, all those numbers change based on temperature and humidity. look in your handy dandy FSM for the majic numbers.
