Danm - Overfilled Battery with Distilled Water

After topping off the OEM batter I noticed the high mark on the side of the battery. Other than neutralizing the small amounts that overflowed throught the vents, should I attempt to bring down the electrolyte levels?

How high are the levels? Are they high enough whereas after you put the caps on, will it overflow? Just as long as the levels aren't real high past the full mark, you should be fine. If they are, I would try to bring them down to the line.

It's below the top, but above the high mark so with the caps on, no electrolyte comes out. However, as I drive and it gets hot under the hood, some electrolyte does come out through the breather holes. I googled it and this page says never to over fill a battery. They don't tell you what to do once you've screwed up.

I found my answer. http://www.justbajan.com/cars/mainta.../printer.htm#5

I got to figure out how to drain some fluid from each cell and neutralize whatever spills.

All 01s did as OEM, and so far, mine is still good. What else would you expect from the company that gave us the crapenzas?

Yeap. I need to buy a new baster if I can't clean mine with soap and rinse with distilled water. I use the one I got to remove power steering and brake/clutch fluid and I don't want to contaminate the battery.

Is it OEM? BTW, the online 07 Max's owners manual shows an non maintenance free battery, so it's just not the 01s. I'm guessing all recent years Maximas' OEM batteries aren't the maintenance free type.

I always thought most new batteries were maintence free? Or are ones that require water better batteries?

This day and age, there's no need for maint. required batteries. Apparently Nissan favors the old fashion types for the max.
