Synthetic Oil Change Dangerous?

Synthetic Oil Change Dangerous?
I have heard both sides on this... I am wanting to tranfer over to synthetic. I have heard nothing but good things about having synthetic oil... but I have heard some things about transferring from petroleum based to synthetic.
My '95 Maxima has 160k miles on it. Would this be dangerous? Is there anything that I should do to make the transfer happen?
Thanks!

There are no dangers in switching back and forth. But before switching I would do the following..
1) Auto-Rx and remove the varnish all over specially the varnish on the seals.
2) Run HM dino oil for 2 oil changes, it refreshes the seals.
3) Then switch to good HM syn oil.
Good luck..

Just start using it. I don't buy into the hype of these engine treatments.
The only risk is that synthetic tends to leak more easily, so you might find a new small leak or an existing leak may move a little faster. I suggest the Mobil1 High Mileage for that.

Do 2 AutoRX applications first.
See www.auto-rx.com and run a search in the Additives Forum of www.bobistheoilguy.com.
This product is only available through the website. It will rejuvenate seals, clean the ring packs, remove varnish and minimize the chances of leaking.
Those that don't buy into the hype of engine treatments, know absolutely nothing about this product. I have used it with success.
I went with what other BITOG members had to say and wasn't disappointed.

At 160k miles, you might have some seals that are worn out but plugged by deposits left by the oil you had been using. A good synthetic oil would unplug those seals by cleaning out the deposits. So, there is a SMALL -- I repeat, SMALL -- possibility that switching to synthetic oil will cause leaks.
AutoRX will clean those deposits and at the same time treat the seals so that they work better. It takes that small possibility of a leak and makes it even smaller (besides giving the engine a very thorough cleaning).
I'd do the AutoRX treatment if I were in your shoes.
As far as oil, Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w-30 would be a good choice. If you want to run an off-the-shelf oil, use either that or Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30.
If you wouldn't mind ordering your oil online, definitely look at Redline 5w-30 and Amsoil ASL (5w-30). Those might be more expensive, but you can run them for much longer between oil changes (10k-15k miles).
Whatever you do, make sure your oil filter is a NAPA Gold, Mobil 1, K&N, or Amsoil EaO-series.

Go with the high mileage synthetic.
Less chance of leaks.
PS- There is NO possible way that switching to synthetic will cause leaks. Its just that there are many more molecules in syn than regular oil. One of reasons why it flows to fast and to extreme temps. But those very small molecules make them easier to leak. That's all.

The OEM Nissan filters can last longer than 3K. I use dino with OEM and change at 5K intervals.

The owner's manual actually states the oil and filter are good for 7,500 miles. In practice, most .orgers change dino oil after 3,750 miles, along with the filter. I am sure the filter is good for at least 5,000 miles, if not 7,500 miles.

Dino + good filter (5K OCI -- verified with UOA). I have been running dino + OEM filter for 5K intervals since new and no oil loss and UOA's within limits.
I would think syn + good filter (7.5k -10K OCI) only after getting UOA numbers.
