Hey my max has 128k and I just got it about a year ago. Ive changed the oil with Mobile 1 supersyn, but prior to my ownership I doubt synthetic was used. I have been hearing people say there is a certain process you have to follow in order to go from non-synthetic to synthetic? Does this "process" exist or is it as simple at putting the new oil in the crankcase? Also, do you think it is fine that I am using synthetic at 128k?

 

I also just switched about a month ago, straight forward, change preferably to a Mobil1 filter and pour the synthetic oil.

From what I've read, it doesn't really matter. What you have to make sure, is probably to change your oil the 2 or 3 first times about at 3k miles, then 5k and then you're good to go.

Again, I'm no expert, so let's see what they say when they add to this thread.

BTW, your Maxi looks nice, they kept it up really good, what year is that?

 

Its a 1995, it has it flaws some dents here and there. Im getting it lowered this week actually so I hope to get some pics up of it. Thanks, I wish I had a 3.5L any day though, you are lucky my friend.

 

The thing with switching to synthetic from dino oil is the fact that it cleans ****. After 128k miles, your oil seals will deteriorate and the dino oil will build up in the deteriorated seals. When you switch to a synthetic, it will clean those nasty old seals and sometimes leaks will occur. Thats the reason I just stick with regular oil on higher mileage cars. Not like synthetic makes a huge difference anyway in an older engine.

It will rejuvenate the seals, clean the combustion chamber, and clean the ring packs.

It strikes me that you are a logical candidate to use AutoRX, given your mileage and lack of knowledge of how the vehicle was maintained prior to you owning it.

Is there any difference between Auto-Rx and Seafoam? Sounds about the same, to me.

Use 2 ounces per quart. Nine ounces in the case of a 4th Gen. I used the enitre 12 ounce bottle.

You can not run synthetic oil when you do the AutoRX trial. Follow the instructions precisely.

 

Better do the Auto-RX treatment prior to the switch over. Don't just switch to it like i did @ 128K. I developed bad leaks within months.
