Follow the lines from the reservoir to the pump. Also check the return lines near the pump, there should be several hoses and three hard lines on the passenger side.

Could be rotted/old hoses or a chip in the hard line.

What year is your Maxima?

I have an '03 and the book calls for DEX/MERC ATF fluid Not power steering fluid. (Weird, but that's how it is) Make sure your putting the correct fluid in for power steering.

You can use either power steering fluid or ATF.
