I've got 2 Aircat impacts, the mini 1/2", and the full-size Nitro-cat. Neither one of them even wanted to open the box at 90psi, but I cranked them to 140psi, and HOLY COW! I use the mini all the time for everything. I've broken out the Nitro-cat 3 times, and twice I snapped bolts with it. I'm running them off of a Craftsman Professional 60 gallon. I've also got an Aircat 3/8" air ratchet, a Craftsman 1/4" air ratchet, a Craftsman air hammer (no shop is complete without an air hammer!), and 2 die grinders.

Haven't even opened it yet, got mixed reviews..

Either im going to keep it or return it and buy a used snap-on impact off ebay. Something 1/2''

Anybody have some advice?
Mainly using it for seized/rusted bolts, suspension, wheels, ect...

Im tired of breaking my craftsman hand tools

The cheapest one Id recommend is the 1/2 blue point AT555A . You can look into the Ingersol Rand new ones. Look at Ebay and www.tooltopia.com I bought a couple of airtools off that company. Im purchasing Ingersol as they are a bit cheaper and just as strong as the Snap ons and blue points. Be careful with MAC and MATCOs. They cost a grip and have far too little power for the price. Read the specs before you pay and compare all of them, forward tq, reverse torque etc...

Horrible, specs were off, quality was poor.

Looking into a snap-on

Hey guys...

Looking into getting an impact gun. I'll probably use it once a month at the most so I was thinking about getting a corded one so I dont have to worry about the battery being charged when it sits for a few months or worry about the battery dying half way through a job, etc. and they are much less expensive.

This is what I have been looking at:

http://www.tooltopia.com/milwaukee-9070-20.aspx

http://www.tooltopia.com/dewalt-tools-dw293.aspx

http://www.tooltopia.com/makita-tw00350.aspx

The dewalt is rated at 325 ft-lb, milwaukee at 300, and the makita at 260. But I know those #'s are a bit subjective and you dont always get the rated torque.

Which would you go with? Any of these or other options?

Milwaukee M18 line hands down. The new (big) 18V is rated at or above 400 ft lbs. I use the hell out of mine doing trail repairs. Lithium batteries hold a charge for a rediculously long time and have a 3 or 5 year warranty.

I also have the (small) M18 with the 1/4" hex for smaller duties, but I think it is rated somewhere around 100+ ft lbs...

I'll be getting a Cordless impact especially for those junkyard explorations that require pulling wheels and suspension component on a hot Texas day. This will help ease the load on my maturing body........

I've had my IR 2131QT for some yrs now and It was defeated once! A Honda crank pulley bolt that even with the special tool and 2 breaker bar, 1 used with a cheater bar couldn't break that beast loose I tried CCw and CW.....turned the job down, more than likely someone with a 1500 ft-lbs 3/4 drive impact....

It has been holding up pretty well after being punished on some suspension work for the wife's 02 Explorer.

I have a Milwaukee 9072-22 (corded impact). The thing is a beast and I love it, except one thing. It had a detent pin socket retainer which is a pain in the @ss to switch sockets. I was thinking of grinding down one side the pin at a angle so I might be able to just pull it off instead of having to stick a nail in the socket side hole to release it.

Any thoughts on this? or any ideas on how to make it easier to switch sockets?

Thanks.

Going to be picking up a corded impact driver later this week. Most likely from Sears.

Any recommendations? Just need a simple no-nonsense gun to remove and install wheels for my Z.

I went corded because I'll only be using it every few months, and didnt want to have to worry about the batteries dying over that time.

With the cord, I know I'll always have power available when I need it.
