All those of you out there that live to work on cars, especially your own, but can't, do to, lack of garage, driveway, tools, or what ever, vent your anger here. We don't want mechanics who don't care about our cars. I just can't take it anymore. My VE is just standing there for months while Im driving another car and I can't even do anything to it because of freezing temps and lack of work space.

I had this problem where I couldn't work out in the snow.... I don't know but I'm a ***** when it come to that white crap.
Moved to GA, problem solved. Though... some times it's too hot
Renting a house made life easier, BUT I PARTED OUT A CAR WHILE LIVING IN AN APARTMENT COMPLEX WOO!

at least you a couple of you guys have garages, i on the other hand had to do all my engine swaps under a hot sun with some trees in the way to give me shade and sometimes when its even about to rain. i have all the tools i need plus 2 air compressors for the air tools for the job. but working under a hot sun is killing me.

several of the classic car guys I know (about 20 of them) rent out a small warehouse and store all their classic cars, toolchests, etc there. They have them all packed in so only 3-4 can be worked on at a time, so they "schedule" when they're going to go there so 10 people aren't trying to put their cars in the work area.
IIRC they pay $100/month each, and they collectively setup the place with power, big air compressor, and waste fluid disposal tanks...

amazing.. what would be the first step in finding a place like this around here? jump from forum to forum basically for my specific region?
you laugh, but people do it...

I have a garage, but alot of the times i end up doing my work outside of the garage in my driveway. I did my rear-sway bar in a shopping mall parking lot haha. That was probably the worst for my car, my freind with his civic did a B16 swap in an underground parking lot at his apartment, im surprised the only things that got stolen were a distributor and a 18mm wrench, which we later found out had smashed a car window lol.

No garage crew signing in. Most of the time when I do things to my car its either in the winter or fall. Most of the jobs ar esupposed to be quick and easy but seem to always turn out to be a pain in the ***. Then it will start to rain, snow, or the temps will drop to about 20 degrees. It happens everytime. The night I started my 00vi swap it started to rain. The first time I ever changed my rotors it started snowing. I was changing my headlights in my Z it starts raining. Hmm maybe I should start checking the weather before I work on my car or dont work on it until the summer. Oh well heres a few pics.
00VI swap
Changing the Z headlights and it starts to rain.
I just noticed in every pic my bro is doing all the work lol.

With the classic car guys though, that's not an issue. The guy who is in charge there says there are about 10 people on the waiting list for a spot in "the garage," plus guys who restore classic cars typically have money and pay the full year in advance from what I hear.

Finding a rental warehouse that is cool with automotive work is challenging to say the least. Maybe thats just the situation in my neck a the woods though. Two years ago I tried for three months to find a place that would allow hobbyist(aka: uninsured automotive work) and none of them would have it. Didn't help that I was 19 though. Good luck in your search.
On the other hand there are such things as Garagominiums. A 1200 sqft unit around here goes for just shy of $60k. Yearly fees are very minimal(Mainly related to snow removal around here) and they let each owner decide about insurance on their own.

I have a carport but it is so filled with crap that if I work on the car it HAS to be in the driveway or yard, right now I have my parts car pushed up really far in the driveway so I can pull half of my DD up in the driveway if I need cement to jack it up. Lol...
I always wash my car in the road and get dirty looks from neighbors driving. I don't care...

bet no one can top this work space:

this picture was when i parted my first car out. I still do a majority of repairs in that gravel driveway but for major stuff i drive to my parents house 20 minutes away where my dad has a heated garage and pretty much every tool.

No wayy, you can't do that in the part of NY where Im at. Bumper to bumper parking, double parking, and people all over the place. I really don't see me building an engine on the sidewalk.

Yea it depends, this was in Queens. We did 3 3.5 swaps in about a month, all on the curb. One's boosted, and the other 2 are on their way

Sounds good. I had a few Honda buddies in Queens doing just that. You prob know that dumb, red, tricked out 01' Civic with the Carbon Fiber hood running around.

i have a garage but its my parents house i only had it in there for 2 days. but that was because my moms car was in for service then once she got her car back i had to take mine out! luckily i go to votec so i can bring my car in the shop as long as i asked the teacher and has nothing major planned. so its a pretty good deal.

I would look into going deeper. Like 24' x 30'.
You will realize with 24' x 24' that you will run out of room at the front and rear with a car in there.Especially if you ever wanted to pull an engine in a car the size of the max and not have half the car out of the garage. Maybe thats not an issue with you being in NM.
