I just read CustomLowz thread about the cordless impact gun he just bought and that leads to my question. I remove the rims on 2 family cars maybe 3 or 4 times a year max. I don't want to spend the DeWalt kind of money that C, Lowz did but I was wondering.

Do any of you guys have any experience with the ones that you plug into your cigarette lighter. I saw one at Wal-Mart for $35 that really tempted me buy it. I have a bum right elbow from weight lifting thats only gonna get worse. This morning while working thru the elbow pain; it took me about 1.5 hrs and 3 beers to jack up my car, remove my oem winter wheels and install my Z rims and new spacers. Thanks again OCguy.

I'm hoping that the impact gun will shorten that time to maybe 45 mins or less, I'm sure it will save the wear and tear on the elbow. Your thoughts and imput are welcome.

i have been always fond of the good old cross wrench. and a good torque wrench. never had a problem! but just remember you get what you pay for as far as wal-mart tools. i like milwakee for power tools.

 

Stay away from the cheap crap. I have a HF impact wrench that doesn't have enough juice to break the lugnuts loose at 90 ft lb (it's spec'd at 250ft lb IIRC), and it doesn't have enough battery life to change a full set of wheels. I have to use both batteries just to R&R the wheels at the track. way to go 5 yr extended warranty...

Those cheap cig lighter plugs *will* get the lugs loose, but it takes quite a while and they don't last very long (i.e. break/wear out).. I put one in my wife's car for an emergency side-of-the-road tire change, but that's as far as I trust it. I also put a good breaker bar /w 2 ft cheater bar in the car as well for her when the sig lighter wrench craps out.

 

Are the craftsman impact guns good? Which one is the best choice? I see the price range from 39.99-129.99 ?? These would be used mostly on the maxima for wheels, engine work, etc.. I have a 5gl air compressor, would this suffice?
