Be very suspect of this piece of crap hoist I bought at Costco last summer. $225.00 with leveler. I just set it up today and at the very last step the bloody support strap bars that support the main upright post don't fit. Can you beleive it?

The metal flat strap is TOO SHORT, it doesn't reach the fasteners. Now i'm going to have to grind the hole bigger with a carbide burr, but this could in fact be dangerous...i'll take photos tommorow so you can see this joke piece of crap. IT'S BRAND NEW!!!

I'm positive. It's the idiots who drilled the hole into the main upright post. They drilled it too high. I found a work around. It's ghetto, but it may work. Photos over weakend. Do you think it's less safe to use your jackstands at their maximum height than their lowest height?

 

A month late, but yes.. running them at max height greatly decreases their stability. on perfectly flat ground, I don't mind doing it.. but on a sloped driveway (my old house), I'd never go above about 5-6" above minimum height. the car would just get too unstable after that, and I've had one slip off jackstands and roll down the driveway before. lucky for me there was nothing to hit and I'd just got done bolting the wheels on.

 

I always do a "shake test" by seeing if I can move the car at all when it's on stands before I even remove the wheels.

I've never been able to, but that doesn't stop me from continuing the tradition.

I did, but I removed them in case I didn't get my refund - but I got my refund, and now i'm just too lazy because i've smoked weed.

Ya bud i'm back in same condition. Listen to this though - I sent the manufacturer and costco this big dramatic e-mail and they got all worried, and asked me to write a report and all...it was hilarious.

Interesting, I had the EXACT same problem with the hoist I got from Harbor Frieght...the diagonal support braces were too short to reach the pre-drilled holes in the main support...

I just ended up drilling new holes that would fit. I've used it dozens of times now (lifting all-iron I-6, and even the entire front end of my old Cherokee )...works fine. Besides that little issue, the rest of it has worked flawlessly.

This is the one I got....photo taken while I was fuddling around trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong in assembly when the holes didn't line up, lol..



Apparently the chinese don't understand the concept of "how things fit together."

 

I had the same problem with that hoist. Wound up taking it back for a refund after being disappointed with its lack of quality.
