Total Garage Overhaul !!!

Well I moved into my house, first house, last november and it had a one car garage, detatched, on the prperty. Bare bones, open walls, few outlets, 4 hanging 4' lights, with some benches in the back. The previous owner extended the garage roughly 4' to be able to have a car completely in the garage and have some room to work on projects, and walk in and out. The dementions of the garage are 11.5' X 26'
The plan was to make the garage workable. Fully insulted, Heated, Airconditioner in the wall, OSB walls, 30amp service run out to the garage, all new outlets and 3 8 foot lights. The garage door is also brand new, rated to R-12.

I bumped out the contruction of the roof to accomidate R-19 at 6 1/2" thick and brought the ceiling up to the 9 1/2 feet and used R-30 10 1/2" thick on the flat spot above. The walls are all R-13. Ill be positioning an electric heater in the upper corner of the garage.

Here are some start to finish shots. I still have to put up some shelfs and whatnot, but its a work in progress. Coming out really good so far.

Great job matty ...

What's going in the garage?

Yea I decided against running a cable line, but that could be done in the future

The Craftsman opener is nice. Havent really used it all that much do to that fact that its been unfinished and not really pleasent to be in there. Now I am using it a lot more. I plan to get orginized with some shelving units on the wall, nothing crazy and set up my work bench and my two new tool boxes

The garage was a real mess before I did all this work. tons of 2x4's up at the 8' line for storage. just a mess

Twice as big, twice the cost to bring it to a temp where I can work out there, twice the cost to condition the air, twice the amount of cost for materials. Its a perfect size in my mind. Materials add up, especially when your 26 yrs old, with a mortgage

True dat... but that just means you don't have enough tools!! My tools won't even fit in that garage.. I have a 2 car garage and can't even get a car in it. (Maybe there's an underlying problem here......)

I'll post pics later... just got the thing almost set up here and havent' had time to take any pics of the new place.

Nice set-up Matty. I always enjoy seeing people making thing better, it remind me when I build my garage 3 years ago. At some point I was trying to put the trust on the roof alone but it was really hard & heavy, first thing I see, 4 of my neighbor just show up to help me. When I saw them coming my way, I was like you guys are not here to help but you want to drink my beer, it was all fun. My garage is 16 x 26 which is easy to clean & cheap to heat during winter. I live in the city and most of my neighbor think I'm very lucky to have such a nice place to work with my baby.

would have been nice to run the co-ax and wiring for tv, stereo speakers, and telephone before putting the OSB in. That said, it looks great and should be pretty warm. I really like how you kept the slope of the ceiling instead of just installing a flat roof. I guess you could always put in a loft at one end for additional storage?

Looks good matty. I don't see any brackets, so how are the shelves attached to the wall?

Nice looking garage. I'm still working on running the electric out to mine so I could have some heat in the winter.

Looks good. I have a 3 car detached garage behind my house. It's one of those big steel buildings. It's pretty nice but I need to get everything out of it and insulate it and do a little partitioning so I can have a parking space and a working space. It's only deep enough to have about a foot or two in front of my Maxima when the door is closed. I need to run power out to it too, I have a long extension cord out there to power lights, Air compressor, battery charger and a Kerosene space heater. Hopefully I can do it soon and make a thread for it once I'm done.

nice job!. You've actually given me some ideas for finishing my shed (aka a 1-car garage in my backyard) to use as a workshop....

one suggestion: you'll want to put that bench grinder someplace with more space around it. I had mine in a small area like that and found that I couldn't get the angles for grinding/wire-brushing on larger pieces due to walls, etc being in the way. I would put it on a shelf along the long wall of the garage, personally.
