Blow torch

what kind of blow torch do your guy use or recommend?

working on maxima on used to be fun, but all the nut and bolt are rusted, due to the the Northeast winter. Ever time I either snap an bolt, strip. or take to the mechanics for him to do (heat -cool methods), that is getting costly.

Does those plumbing torch work?

Personally I have a turbo torch that I use Mapp gas with. Works great and it's pretty easy to maneuver into tight places. Just look out for electrical in the area. Almost burnt down a Bronco that way.

thanks, I grab an bernzomatic plumbing with mapp gas over at HD.
The flame is little huge, but it heat up very fast.
Originally, i was going to get a oxygen and mapp kit, but its going to cost a lot to operate .

Is mapp hot enough to get a nice redhot glow to break corrosion? I've been using propane, and it has never helped me remove a stuck bolt.

yes, mapp hot enough for that glowing hot red to break the corrosion in a few sec or min depending on bolt size. My torch kit came with mapp gas, but I want to try propane for general use. 9 dollars for mapp, 3 for propane, it's big difference.
But,make sure your torch head support mapp gas .

I ran the gamut of other gas and had no idea mapp even existed haha. Well, thank god, it'll be worth the $9 to finally be able to get some fused bolts out.

AZ has mag torches for around 18 bucks. Can't say the flame is that strong though.

I have oxy-acetylene which does anything I need it to as far as breaking bolts loose. The only draw back is that my hoses are only about 15 feet long. The initial cost is pretty high too. The secondary flame of MAPP is actually hotter than the secondary flame of oxy-acetylene so overall I waould say MAPP is the best.

My propane torch is pretty much worthless except it is useful for bolts that aren't completely stuck as it doesn't burn the surrounding area as bad as a more serious torch.

I have a oxy-acetylene, but I think that might be a bit of overkill, mapp might be the best bet with the bernzomatic.

I use oxy-acetylene. You can weld and cut with it too. Great to have. Got mine on Craigs. Good luck.
