How much does this 'solution' weigh - as much as I like the look of a flat trunk floor - I'm not sure adding a bunch of extra weight is the best solution, is it possible to have this made from a lighter material?

The board itself is only about 8.5 lbs, fully carpeted. Take off maybe a half pound if you don't want a carpeted one. It's actually quite light considering how sturdy it is. I think the OEM particle board is about 2-3 pounds so net, it's not all that much you're gaining.
