It's just basically pulling the knock sensor off of the motor and mounting it somewhere where it will not pick up knock and pull timing which they like to do even when the motor is not knocking. So when you ground it somewhere else you are running 100% timing 100% of the time (courtesy of JClaw). Just make sure you run 93 octane, and you are the knock sensor so be attentive, but as long as your not running extremely advanced timing or running extremely lean then you shouldn't really have to worry about detonation. I have been driving around for a while with it off with 2* advanced timing and have not had any problems.
